What is a gas compression 14/14?

A Gas Compression 14/14 job refers to a rotational work schedule in the gas compression industry where employees work 14 days on, followed by 14 days off. Gas compression technicians or operators are responsible for maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting gas compressors used in the extraction, transportation, and processing of natural gas. The 14/14 schedule is common in remote or offshore locations and helps balance demanding work periods with extended rest periods. Workers in these roles need technical knowledge of compressors, safety protocols, and may work long shifts during their on-periods.

To thrive as a Gas Compression Operator on a 14/14 schedule, you need strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and experience with gas compression systems, typically supported by a high school diploma or technical certification. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure safe, reliable equipment operation and minimize downtime in demanding, remote work environments.

What are some typical challenges faced by gas compression technicians working on a 14/14 rotation schedule?
