Job description

Purpose:

Independently performs diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance work on customer and/or dealer-owned lawn and garden/outdoor power equipment. May require some direction or guidance from the Location Service Management team.

Responsibilities: 

  • Performs diagnostics and repairs on John Deere Lawn & Garden Equipment and other brands sold at the dealership. May perform diagnostics and repairs on competitive equipment.
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, tools, and equipment required to perform job responsibilities.
  • Participates in John Deere University training and dealer-led training to further the development of skills and knowledge. 
  • Conducts or supports customer clinics.
  • Maintains current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products.
  • Mentors Service Technician Apprentices and Students as requested.
  • Maintains condition of vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintains a clean work area and performs work in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Follows all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments.
  • Accountable for billable time and assigned work orders.
  • Responsible for tracking all materials used in performing assigned duties.
  • Completes all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Other appropriate responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Experience, Education, Skills, and Knowledge: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience required, Associates degree preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience performing service repairs; demonstrated experience consistently meeting performance metrics preferred.
  • Ability to perform repairs and maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures with limited re-work or customer dissatisfaction.
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in the repair of agriculture and turf equipment.
  • Ability to operate vehicles, tools, and equipment for diagnostic purposes.
  • Experience with basic computer functions; experience using Service ADVISOR or other computer-based diagnostic repair tools preferred.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Experience communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Valid driver's license required; Forklift license preferred.

 

Additional Requirements: 

  • Ability to lift 75 pounds repeatedly.
  • Adequate toolset to perform job responsibilities required.
  • Driving record that meets Employer's insurance company requirements.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical examination and obtain Medical Examiner's Certificate may be required.
