Job description

The two-time Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins, primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings and proud member of the American Hockey League, announce an opening for a full-time Community Relations Coordinator. This servant leader will assist in all facets of the community relations department's efforts, focusing on our vision to enhance our community and deliver memorable experiences through sports, while building and expanding upon initiatives that have garnered the AHL's Team Business Services Award for Community Service on three occasions.
Reports To:
• Vice President of Communications
Responsibilities:
• Manage, fulfill and coordinate community programs, events, initiatives and operations, including player, coach, staff and mascot appearances throughout the area; donation requests; team autograph sessions; and 50/50 raffle operations at all home games;
• Provide assistance and support for major team events such as the Great Skate Winterfest; the Griffins & Sled Wings Sled Hockey Game; Tip-A-Griffin; the Griffins Youth Foundation Golf Classic; and the Griffins Youth Hockey Camps;
• Provide assistance and support for programs and initiatives such as Better Halves; Charitable Goals; Griff's Reading Goals; Griffins Little Free Libraries; Put A Lid On It!; and Summer Reading Rewards;
• Build and maintain fruitful relationships within our community, including with hospitals, schools, youth hockey programs, youth organizations, and other nonprofits;
• Prospect and sell sponsorships for all CR programs and events, as well as the Griffins Youth Foundation, on commission;
• Represent the team at community events, festivals, parades, etc.;
• As needed, aid in capturing photos, video, and/or social media content from our community endeavors;
• As needed, provide support for the Griffins Youth Foundation's programming and staff;
• Mail, package, deliver and/or distribute a variety of program materials;
• Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in sport management, public relations, nonprofit management, or related major;
• 1-2 years' experience in sports community relations or nonprofit work;
• A servant's heart and proven passion for/experience in enhancing our community;
• Sales experience and acumen;
• Excellent written and oral communication skills;
• Creativity, exacting attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage a variety of simultaneous tasks and meet deadlines;
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office;
• Self-starting, highly motivated individual with exceptional work ethic and unquestioned dependability;
• Personal, professional demeanor;
• Availability to work many nights and weekends, as demanded by home games, community events, and other responsibilities.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to bend, reach, and lift boxes and office supplies up to 30 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
