What are some common challenges faced by Game Testers during the development cycle?

Game Testers often encounter tight deadlines and rapidly changing project requirements, especially as games approach launch. They must adapt quickly to new builds and features, and meticulously document bugs while collaborating closely with developers and designers. Balancing thoroughness with efficiency, managing repetitive tasks, and communicating clearly about issues are daily challenges. Successful testers are detail-oriented, resilient, and proactive in addressing both technical and gameplay concerns.

What Does a Game Tester Do?

Game testers ensure the quality and condition of video and mobile games for game production companies. Game testers also test hardware, such as gaming consoles and controllers to ensure quality, durability, and functionality. A core responsibility of a game tester is to identify bugs, glitches, and problems that potentially inhibit game operation and obstruct user experience. Also, game testers collaborate with visual designers and programmers to remedy the problems they find in games.

Can I be a game tester with no experience?

Game tester positions often do not require prior experience, as employers look for attention to detail, good communication skills, and a passion for gaming. Entry-level roles may involve basic testing tasks, and familiarity with gaming platforms or testing tools can be helpful. Building a portfolio or gaining knowledge of game development can improve chances of getting hired.

What are game testers?

Game testers, also known as quality assurance (QA) testers, are professionals who play video games in development to identify bugs, glitches, and other issues before the game is released to the public. Their job involves thoroughly testing different aspects of the game, such as gameplay mechanics, graphics, sound, and user interface, and documenting any problems they find. Game testers work closely with developers to ensure that the final product is as polished and enjoyable as possible. This role requires attention to detail, patience, and strong communication skills.

What qualifications do you need to be a game tester?

To become a game tester, candidates typically need a strong understanding of video games, good attention to detail, and basic knowledge of testing procedures. A high school diploma or equivalent is usually required, and familiarity with testing tools or bug tracking software can be beneficial. Some positions may also require good communication skills and the ability to work flexible hours during testing phases.

Are video game tester jobs real?

Yes, video game tester jobs are real and involve playing early versions of games to identify bugs and issues. These roles often require attention to detail, knowledge of gaming, and sometimes specific software testing skills, and they can be full-time or freelance positions.

How much do game testers make?

Game testers typically earn between $10 and $20 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from around $20,000 to $50,000 depending on experience and location. Entry-level testers often start at the lower end, while experienced testers or those working for larger companies may earn higher wages. Skills in testing tools and understanding of game development can influence pay rates.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Game Tester, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Game Tester, you need strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and a deep understanding of gaming platforms, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with bug tracking systems (like JIRA), test case management tools, and quality assurance methodologies is typically required. Excellent communication skills, patience, and teamwork help testers clearly document issues and collaborate with developers. These skills ensure that games are thoroughly tested, bugs are effectively reported, and product quality meets industry standards before release.

Job description

We're adding to the team. FatCat is looking for a PPC Specialist to own paid media next to our current pro and pitch in on SEO and SEM as needed. You will run Google Ads and Meta campaigns that drive booked appointments and qualified leads for our contractor clients, and you will help round out the broader search game plan when the work calls for it.

This is a hands-on role for someone who lives in the platforms, loves the numbers, and gets fired up when a campaign starts crushing its cost per lead.

What You Will Do
  • Build, launch, and manage Google Ads, Bing Ads and Meta campaigns across multiple home improvement clients
  • Own the full PPC lifecycle: keyword research, ad copy, audience targeting, bid strategy, budget pacing, and landing page recommendations
  • Track and report on performance using GA4, GTM, WhatConverts, and CallRail, tying spend directly to leads and revenue
  • Run ongoing optimization: A/B testing, negative keyword cleanup, search term mining, and conversion tracking audits
  • Support SEO and SEM efforts as needed, including on-page recommendations, technical fixes, content briefs, and local search work
  • Contribute to our AI visibility playbook, helping clients show up in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI results (we use Rankscale and Profound, and we will teach you the system)
  • Collaborate with account managers, designers, and our web team to keep campaigns and landing pages aligned
  • Stay ahead of platform changes, new ad formats, and shifts in how search works

Requirements

  • 2+ years of hands-on PPC experience managing Google Ads and Meta campaigns, ideally for local service or lead-gen businesses
  • A real command of conversion tracking, attribution, and the metrics that matter (CPL, CPA, ROAS, conversion rate)
  • Working knowledge of SEO and SEM fundamentals, enough to jump in and add value when needed
  • Comfort with GA4 and Google Tag Manager
  • Sharp analytical instincts and the discipline to make decisions off data, not hunches
  • Clear communication and the ability to explain results to clients in plain English
  • A competitive streak and a genuine drive to win for the people you work for
Nice to Have
  • Experience marketing home improvement, remodeling, or other home services businesses
  • Familiarity with WhatConverts, CallRail, Go High Level, or ClickUp
  • Google Ads and Meta Blueprint certifications
  • Exposure to AI search, GEO, or AEO work
  • Experience with call tracking and lead attribution in a high-ticket, lead-gen environment

Why FatCat

  • A focused, specialist agency where strategy and judgment beat busywork
  • A team that knows the contractor space better than anyone and wants you to get great at it
  • Real ownership of your accounts and your results
  • A clear playbook, modern tools, and the support to do your best work

Who We Are

FatCat is a digital marketing agency built for one thing: helping home improvement and remodeling contractors win. We have been in the game since 2002, and in 2018 we went all in on the contractor space. Bath remodelers, roofers, siding crews, kitchen and bath pros. That focus is our edge. We know these businesses cold, and we run full-service playbooks across PPC, SEO, AI visibility, websites, social, email, and lead attribution.

We are not a volume shop that treats every account the same. We win on judgment and strategy, and we are looking for someone who wants to do the same.

Benefits

  • SIMPLE IRA with company matching
  • Health insurance, 50% premium covered
  • Paid time off, increasing with tenure
  • Paid company holidays
  • Flexible hybrid and work-from-home policy
  • Professional development stipend
  • Relaxed, supportive team environment

Salary based on experience and skillset.
