The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis is to provide comfort, care and a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill children. Our objective is to enable families to practice family-centered care by providing them with all of the basic comforts of home.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of St. Louis has a part-time Family Room Associate position open. This position is part of a mission-focused team of professionals providing compassion and hospitality to families with seriously ill children.

Often steps away from a pediatric intensive care unit or neonatal intensive care unit, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer places of refuge to families whose children have been hospitalized because of illness or injury.

Located in St. Louis Children's Hospital, Cardinal Glennon and Mercy Children's Hospital, our Family Rooms feature everything families might need to feel as comfortable as possible, including:

  • Snacks donated by supporters
  • Kitchenette with dining tables
  • Shared living space for watching TV, playing games, and relaxing
  • Playroom with games, books, crafts, and activities for all ages
  • Private restrooms with showers
  • Laundry
  • Free Wi-Fi throughout the Family Room provided by the hospital
  • Computer area

This position is responsible for the supervision of Family Room Program operations and guest services during any assigned shift.

This position covers open shifts to support the Family Room Program team. Operational hours are 9:00 am - 9:00 pm. Shifts can include weekday, night, weekend, and holidays.

As part of RMHC, the position collaborates with the team members to achieve position and organization goals in support of the RMHC mission and Core Values.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Working on or completion of a college degree is preferred
  • Schedule flexibility to work a variety of shifts (days, evenings, and weekends)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to respond to and handle emergency and conflict situations
  • Experience in working with families, volunteers, customers, or general public is preferred
  • Ability to follow and monitor policies and procedures
  • Experience with MS Office
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Must be able to work independently

Essential Functions

  • Guest Services
    • Promotes an atmosphere of support, warmth, understanding and open communication with guest families, volunteers, and staff
    • Trains / guides volunteers in guest services
  • Family Room Operations
    • Covers Family Rooms, responsible for working shifts as needed
    • Replenish Family Room supplies as needed
    • Communicate reports, incidents, or emergencies
    • Trains volunteers during shift if needed
    • Gives Family Room tours to families, donors, guests, and groups
    • Accepts and documents in-kind or monetary donations
    • Greets and assists visitors and answers phones
  • Regular and reliable attendance

Physical Demands

Must be able to concentrate and remain focused while handling multiple tasks, responsibilities and projects. Must be able to perform bending, twisting, stooping, reaching, and lifting of moderate to heavy weight material up to 30 lbs. Must be able to frequently climb stairs, including up to 5 flights, and frequently walk distances up to approximately 160 yards. Must be able to travel between RMH locations as needed.
