Job Description

The Director / Game Day Operations will provide operational guidance to the Game Day Operations staff and will work with a dynamic team of event professionals to organize athletic events. Responsibilities include: Organizing home events, tournaments, and special events. Serve as a liaison for officials and game personnel. Ensure game operations run on schedule and according to the ACC and NCAA rules. Coordinate ball retrieval personnel for individual sports. Hire and schedule qualified game personnel to operate scoreboards, shot clocks, sound systems, etc. Collaborate on logistics with essential personnel; police, rescue, concession, facilities, event staff, marketing, parking, etc. Monitor crowd behavior and report any issues to appropriate staff. Enforce emergency procedures and communicate with campus safety/security as needed. Manage inventory and maintain athletic equipment and supplies used during games. Support event promotions, ticketing, and fan engagement activities. Assist when needed for postseason tournaments and special events. Manage master schedule for home contests, practices, camps, and special events. Manage campus EMS scheduling system for Athletic Teams in coordination with appropriate University and Athletics colleagues. This position operates in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment that includes on-site event management and office-based administrative work including written correspondence, invoicing, and Banner Time Entries. Frequent evening and weekend work are required to support athletic contests and departmental events. This position reports directly to the Sr. Associate AD / Game Operations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelors degree in sports management or related field with relevant experience, or a master's degree.
Previous experience with project coordination, event planning or a related field.
Previous experience in intercollegiate or professional sports.
Dependable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours (nights and weekends required).
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with the ability to make quick decisions, and handle multiple tasks during live events.
Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with leadership and/or supervising.
Experience with University systems such as Banner and/or HokieMart.
Experience using Teamworks software.
