What is a game monetization manager?

A Game Monetization Manager is a professional responsible for developing and implementing strategies to maximize revenue from a video game. This includes overseeing in-game purchases, ad placements, pricing models, and promotional offers to ensure a balance between player satisfaction and profitability. They analyze player behavior, sales data, and market trends to optimize monetization tactics while maintaining a positive player experience. Their goal is to generate sustainable income for the game without negatively impacting user engagement.

How does a game monetization manager collaborate with other departments to implement effective in-game revenue strategies?

A Game Monetization Manager works closely with game designers, product managers, data analysts, and marketing teams to develop and refine in-game purchase systems and pricing models. They provide insights based on player behavior data and market trends, ensuring that monetization features enhance user engagement without compromising the player experience. Regular meetings and cross-functional reviews are common, allowing the Monetization Manager to align revenue strategies with broader game development and live operations goals. This collaborative approach ensures that monetization initiatives are both profitable and player-friendly.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a game monetization manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Game Monetization Manager, you need expertise in data analysis, game design economics, and a background in business or marketing, often with a related degree. Familiarity with analytics platforms (like Tableau or Google Analytics), A/B testing tools, and in-app purchase management systems is crucial. Exceptional communication, creative problem-solving, and collaboration skills help you work effectively with cross-functional teams. These abilities ensure the development of engaging and profitable monetization strategies that balance player satisfaction and revenue growth.

Job description

Who We Are
At 2K, we create some of the most iconic and culture-shaping video games in entertainment, including NBA® 2K, one of the top-selling franchises in the world, and legendary titles like BioShock®, Borderlands®, Mafia, Sid Meier's Civilization®, and XCOM®, as well as fan favorites WWE® 2K, TopSpin®, and PGA TOUR® 2K. We build unforgettable experiences by pushing the boundaries of creativity, authenticity and innovation across every genre.
Our portfolio is brought to life by some of the most influential game development studios in the world. Visual Concepts, Firaxis Games, Hangar 13, Cat Daddy Games, 31st Union, Cloud Chamber, Gearbox, HB Studios, and 2K SportsLab create world-class experiences across platforms.
But what truly powers 2K is our people.
We believe the best ideas come from teams that feel empowered, supported, and inspired. As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive workplace where people are encouraged to come as they are and do their best work.
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Technical Director to lead the integration team of 2K game and publishing tech into our upcoming AAA titles. In this role, you will lead - by example - a cross-functional team of engineers who will ensure our studios can leverage the full strength of 2K's custom tech and world-class publishing systems.
What You Will Do
  • Provide technical leadership and management for the Partner Success organization's TAM and Solution Engineering teams, setting standards for how technical delivery is scoped, staffed, and executed.
  • Own technical strategy for partner engagements - from architecture evaluation and SDK implementation through configuration and ongoing support - ensuring consistency and quality across the partner base.
  • Grow and mentor TAMs and Solution Engineers, building technical depth and partner-facing skill across the team.
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and vertical leads to make sure the Partner Success technical model reflects real integration complexity, not just process.
  • Serve as an escalation point and technical decision-maker for complex or high-stakes partner integrations.
  • Build and champion AI-powered workflows and tooling to make the team faster and partner integrations more frictionless.
  • Identify gaps, risks, and opportunities in how technical delivery is organized, and drive changes to the operating model when needed.
  • Lead through influence - build trust across Product, Engineering, and partner-facing teams, and bring people along on technical decisions rather than mandating them.
What You Bring
  • 10+ years experience in multiplatform AAA game development with multiple shipped titles.
  • Full stack game development experience - from gameplay, UI, networking, and backend services. Expert in integrating, debugging, and optimizing game networking/online, multiplayer, monetization/commerce and identity/accounts subsystems. Familiar with development of low-level systems like streaming, generic serialization, and more.
  • Deep experience with Unreal, Unity, C++ engines and common platform SDKs.
  • Strong coding skills in C++, familiarity with Go, C#
  • Collaborative and dependable with an eye for problem solving.
  • Thrives under pressure. Oriented toward results and unflappable in the face of challenges.
  • Comfortable being the technical decision-maker. You can hold a strong opinion, defend it with evidence, and change it when the evidence shifts.
  • Track record of working effectively across teams without formal authority.
Bonus Items
  • Experience shipping developer tools or platforms in the games industry.
  • Prior experience shipping software on console platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch), including familiarity with platform certification requirements and console-specific SDK constraints.
  • Background in online services, networking, telemetry, or live operations.
  • Prior work building AI-powered developer tooling
  • Open-source contributions, especially to widely-used SDKs or developer libraries.
Why This Role Matters
Our online services platform and SDK gives studios the tools to unlock richer functionality for their games. The strength of our partnerships with these studios is what makes successful integration of our SDK and platform possible. That success is what ultimately lets us deliver the best possible experience to players across every game we support.
As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to ensuring that qualified individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform their essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us if you need reasonable accommodation.
Please note that 2K Games and its studios never uses instant messaging apps or personal email accounts to contact prospective employees or conduct interviews and when emailing, only use 2K.com accounts.
Please note that 2K is unable to provide visa sponsorship or assistance for this position. All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring current or future employer sponsorship.
