Job description

Position Title: Girls Middle School Basketball Coach
Reports To: Building Principal/Athletic Director
Salary: $1,600.00 Stipend per the SEA CBA
Start Date/End Date: September, 2026 - November, 2026


Position Summary:
The Middle School Girls' Basketball Coach is responsible for teaching, guiding, and mentoring students in grades 5-8 in the fundamentals of basketball, promoting teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship, while ensuring a safe and positive athletic experience. The coach will plan and lead practices, develop game strategies, and foster the personal and athletic development of student-athletes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and supervise all practices, games, and team events.
  • Teach the fundamentals of basketball, including rules, techniques, and strategies, appropriate to the developmental level of students in grades 5-8.
  • Consistently model and promote good sportsmanship, teamwork, and mutual respect. Treat every player with dignity, fostering a strong sense of self-worth and belonging, while upholding respect for opponents, officials, and spectators always.
  • Always ensure the safety and well-being of all players, including proper conditioning, warm-up, and supervision.
  • Develop and communicate clear expectations for student-athletes and maintain discipline according to school and athletic department policies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Middle School Athletic Director to manage team schedules, equipment, facilities, and transportation or any other needs.
  • Maintain open and timely communication with parents, athletes, and school staff regarding team matters.
  • Ensure all participants meet eligibility, academic, and attendance requirements.
  • Model professional behavior, integrity, and ethical coaching standards always.
  • Support player development by ensuring every athlete has an opportunity to play in every game
  • Comply with all school district, league, and athletic association rules and regulations.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and techniques.
  • Ability to effectively teach and motivate young athletes at varying skill levels. Teaching the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, rebounding and the concepts of defense.
  • Ability to prepare for game preparation with set plays, structured offense/defense
  • "Ability to effectively demonstrate proper skills and drills to athletes.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff, parents, and community.
  • Demonstrates the ability to inspire confidence in student-athletes by fostering positive emotions such as enthusiasm, joy, and excitement, which contribute to enhanced performance and overall team morale.
  • Must pass all required background checks
  • Prior coaching experience, particularly with youth or middle school athletes.
