Job description

Description
The YMCA is seeking a passionate, energetic, and dedicated Volleyball Instructor to join our team. This role is focused on inspiring a love of volleyball in children by providing quality instruction, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and ensuring a safe, fun, and supportive environment.
Responsibilities include planning and leading age-appropriate volleyball practices for youth ages 4-12, teaching fundamental skills and techniques (such as serving, passing, setting, hitting, and basic game play), demonstrating drills and strategies, and overseeing scrimmages or games. Instructors will encourage participant confidence, teamwork, and skill development. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of volleyball, prior coaching or instructional experience, effective communication skills, and a genuine passion for working with children.
The Youth Volleyball Instructor will support the mission of the YMCA by modeling and teaching the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring. If you are motivated by making a positive impact in the lives of children through sports and teamwork, we would love to hear from you.
  1. Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational classes/practices/games, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  1. Answers questions from participants/parents to support them in achieving their goals related to youth development. Maintains working knowledge of sport/activity, and trends to provide effective information and support to participants.
  1. Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  1. Conveys information on sports/activity programs and schedules, and as appropriate, refers participants and parents to other programs.
  1. Keeps accurate class records (attendance & progress reports).
  1. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  1. Prepares and maintains field/gym area before and after program; organizes and puts away class equipment; reports damaged equipment.
  1. Officiates sport/activity matches and games as scheduled.
  1. Assists in supervision of volunteers involved in sport or activity.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Passionate belief in the Y's cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  2. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  3. Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification must be obtained within the first 60 days
  4. Must be at least 16 years old and have experience participating in the area of instruction; previous experience instructing preferred.
