POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Development Staff are responsible for the safety, supervision, and leading activities of the children in the Child Watch and Family Activity Center. The Youth Development Staff collaborate to develop and provide academic and enrichment programs for youth participating in the program, working closely with families to provide the best care for children (ages 6 weeks to 11 years).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists or leads program development and implementation, typically including fun activities such as crafts, games, sports, and special events for youth and families
  2. Maintains accurate and complete participant attendance logs within the program, also ensuring positive participant engagement.
  3. Supervise, support, and maintain a safe environment where youth can experience positive emotional and social development
  4. Knows, reviews, and applies all safety, emergency, and child abuse prevention policies and procedures, responding to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA protocol
  5. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with families about their child’s participation in activities, behaviors, and related topics, connecting families to the YMCA.
  6. Participates as a member of assigned committees, attends regular staff meetings, and promotes the YMCA throughout the local community

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Two years of experience working with youth aged 6 weeks-11 years preferred
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific trainings upon hire
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
