What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Game Architect, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Game Architect, you need a deep understanding of game design principles, software engineering, and system architecture, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with industry-standard engines like Unreal or Unity, experience with programming languages (such as C++ or C#), and knowledge of design documentation tools are typically required. Exceptional problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help Game Architects coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and translate creative visions into technical solutions. These skills ensure that games are technically sound, scalable, and deliver engaging player experiences.

They facilitate communication between different departments, helping translate gameplay concepts into scalable systems and providing guidelines for coding standards and engine usage. Regular meetings and documentation are common tools for collaboration, allowing the Game Architect to address technical challenges early and maintain consistency throughout the development cycle.

Job description

Las Vegas is unlike anywhere else in the world, and so is the work we do here. At Cuningham, we design the experiences that define this city: immersive resorts, world-class gaming destinations, and hospitality environments that captivate guests from the moment they arrive. Our Las Vegas office is home to a talented, multi-disciplinary team working across a variety of markets, so while hospitality and gaming are at the heart of this role, you'll find no shortage of opportunities to contribute to diverse and exciting projects. We're a firm that believes great design goes beyond aesthetics, it transforms how people feel, connect, and experience the world around them. Driven by collaboration, fueled by creativity, and grounded in a commitment to regenerative design, we bring bold ideas to life at every scale.
We are seeking an Architect to join our Las Vegas team and contribute to hospitality and gaming projects across all phases of design and delivery. This role is ideal for a designer who combines creative vision with technical rigor and is eager to grow within a collaborative, design-driven environment. The Architect will engage in developing design solutions, coordination, and production efforts while supporting project teams through all phases of the work. This individual will independently move portions of project scope forward with minimal supervision while collaborating closely with project leaders, consultants, and clients.
Experience in the hospitality and gaming market sector is required, with demonstrated project involvement on resort, hotel, and/or casino project types.
What you will be doing:
  • Engage in design development, coordination, and production across all project phases using sketching, 2D/3D modeling, and computational design methods in alignment with project goals and client vision

  • Apply regenerative design principles to the built, social, and natural environments

  • Plan, develop, and participate in design presentations that communicate compelling ideas to clients and stakeholders

  • Develop and document projects through both creative design and technical detailing

  • Collaborate with consultants, contractors, and internal disciplines to achieve the best design outcomes

  • Coordinate BIM models and documentation internally and with project partners

  • Participate in construction administration activities alongside the Project Architect and on-site staff, including site observations and verifications

  • Take ownership of quality work within your assigned focus area of each project

  • Conduct research on exterior materials, products, wall assemblies, waterproofing systems, and vertical circulation solutions

  • Support and perform exterior massing studies, site studies with Landscape Architecture, and interior space planning and programming with Interior Design

  • Participate in code reviews and coordinate with the Specifications team

  • Proficiently use MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Revit/BIM 360, with a willingness to build skills in Rhino, Enscape, and Lumion

What we look for:
  • 5-10 years of professional architecture experience, with a focus on hospitality and/or gaming projects

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch)

  • Licensed Architect or actively pursuing licensure; NCARB a plus

  • Strong portfolio demonstrating hospitality and/or gaming design experience across multiple project phases, including design development and construction documentation

  • Experience collaborating with consultants, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams across all phases of project delivery

  • Proficiency in Revit/BIM 360, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office

  • Working knowledge of visualization and modeling tools such as Rhino, Enscape, and/or Lumion

  • Understanding of exterior materials, wall assemblies, waterproofing, building codes, and permitting requirements

  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams

$72,000 - $105,000 a year
Compensation provided is based on our national range which varies by work location and may also depend on accreditation, experience and responsibilities. Our talent management team can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.
Compensation range updated 1/18/2026.
Benefits: Cuningham offers a variety of benefits to employees including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, 401k retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off.
Why Cuningham?
At Cuningham, we believe the best work happens when people are supported, challenged, and connected. Whether collaborating across teams, engaging with our communities, or shaping meaningful design solutions, we bring pragmatic creativity and disciplined execution to every project - and we support each other through it all.
We nurture an equitable work environment where curiosity is celebrated, craft is valued, and growth is prioritized. Alongside a team that brings low-ego expertise and active leadership day-to-day, you'll work on complex, high-stakes projects that demand bold thinking and disciplined delivery.
