Job description

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.
Our Content & Business Products (CBP) Engineering teams build the products and services to optimize and automate the content creation process including content planning, financing, production, promotion, and distribution. We support Netflix's enterprise needs including Finance, Talent, Tech Support, and Customer Support to ensure smooth operations. Our products enable the entire workflow of content production, from pitch to play, and provide innovative new ways to develop and manage entertainment at scale. The team's work is critical to supporting the creation of movies and TV series that will thrill the world!
We are looking for talented full stack engineers like you to help build the technologies that allow us to scale our efforts across the globe, and do so effectively and efficiently! You'll have a direct impact on how the Netflix studio creates and promotes shows such as "Squid Game", "Stranger Things" and "The Queen's Gambit" on a global scale.
As part of the CBP Engineering org, MWI Messaging team provides fully managed, highly leveraged eventing and communications platforms. These platforms empower CBP Engineering teams to seamlessly connect and drive business workflows, deliver notifications, and facilitate real-time online collaboration for global business users as well as vendors & partners across the content pipelines.
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team to bring new perspectives as we solve the next set of challenges. In addition, we are open to remote candidates - we value what you can do, from anywhere in the U.S..
You will be successful in this role if you enjoy:
  • Strongly self-motivated, working independently, and partnering with a diverse group of engineers, product managers, designers and TPMs across different functional areas and organizations.
  • Empowering other engineers by building and operating robust, scalable, and highly available platform products, including both frontend widgets and backend services, with a focus on developer experience, observability and operational excellence.
  • Thriving in ambiguity, diving deep to understand problems and customer pain points, and solving them using appropriate technologies.
  • Being an evangelist for high quality code and engineering best practices.
  • Assisting in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals, and helping build technical communities across the organization.
  • Living the Netflix's culture and thinking you would thrive here.

Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in architecting and developing highly-leveraged platforms that other engineering teams build on, across the full software stack - from GraphQL/RESTful APIs and embeddable UI components to resilient, high-scale, real-time asynchronous backend systems in production.
  • Solid backend expertise in architecting microservices, including their data structures and APIs, using Java, C#, or comparable object-oriented languages. Applies rigorous OO design principles to deliver high performance, strong observability, and seamless extensibility, while effectively transforming business needs into technical designs.
  • Have recent, hands-on experience building complex, high-quality user interfaces with HTML, JavaScript/TypeScript, and CSS, with exposure to React and modern frontend architecture (component design, state management, performance optimization). A strong eye for UI/UX craft.
  • Experience in leading cross-functional initiatives with design, product, and engineering partners, managing scope, balancing tradeoffs, orchestrating dependencies across teams, and driving delivery from ambiguous goal to launched, operable product.
  • Proven ability to communicate and influence across audiences by distilling complex technical and business concepts for engineers, product, and leadership, and driving alignment and decisions through clear writing, design docs, and reviews.
  • Track record of operational ownership by leading incident response and post-incident reviews, and driving the reliability, observability, and on-call improvements to raise the team's bar.

What Sets You Apart:
  • Defines the problem before defining the solution: turns ambiguity into crisp, measurable problems, communicates clearly to align the team and stakeholders, and iteratively delivers real business value through rigorous scoping.
  • Multiplies the team: shapes how the team designs and builds through influence, and coaches and mentors peers and junior engineers to raise the bar.
  • Brings a strong product mindset: understands and challenges the "why", contributes ideas with reasoning rather than just implementing a spec, and seeks early feedback on what you build.
  • Exercises sound technical judgment: weighs tradeoffs with data, avoids over-engineering, makes good calls with incomplete information, and favors reusable patterns others can build on.
  • Drives outcomes with a bias for action: identifies root causes, delivers high-quality, sustainable solutions across the stack, and owns results through production.

Bonus Points:
  • Big plus: Experience in architecting and developing messaging bus, asynchronous data processing, workflow orchestration and other related infrastructure platform domains.
  • Deep understanding of and/or hands-on experience applying distributed systems concepts such as partitioning, idempotency, backpressure and distributed tracing.
  • Proactively leveraging AI to amplify impact by accelerating decisions through rapid prototyping, blurring cross-functional boundaries, and transforming team processes into AI-powered ones.
