What does a gallery curator do?

A Gallery Curator is responsible for managing and organizing art exhibitions within a gallery space. Their duties include selecting and acquiring artworks, planning exhibition themes, coordinating with artists and lenders, and overseeing installation and presentation. Curators also develop educational programs, write exhibition catalogues, and work to engage the public with the gallery’s collection. They play a crucial role in shaping the artistic vision and reputation of the gallery.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a gallery curator?

To thrive as a Gallery Curator, you need a strong background in art history or fine arts, exhibition planning, and collection management, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with digital cataloging systems, exhibition design software, and conservation techniques is typically required. Excellent communication, organizational skills, and an eye for detail help curators engage audiences and collaborate with artists and stakeholders. These skills are essential for creating compelling exhibitions, preserving collections, and enhancing a gallery’s reputation and public engagement.

How does a gallery curator typically collaborate with artists and other team members when planning exhibitions?

A Gallery Curator works closely with artists to understand their vision, select works, and design the layout of exhibitions. They also coordinate with registrars, educators, marketing teams, and installation staff to ensure that each show is presented effectively and reaches the intended audience. Collaboration often involves regular meetings, reviewing artwork lists, and problem-solving logistical challenges together. This teamwork is vital to creating engaging and smoothly executed exhibitions.

Job description

RH at its core is about taste, and we believe the idea of scaling taste is large and far reaching.

The RH brand attracts the best designers, artisans, manufacturers and talent in our industry, scaling and rendering their work more valuable across our integrated platform, enabling us to curate the most compelling collection of luxury home furnishings in the world. People who are driven, determined and won't take "no" for an answer. We value team players, people who are more concerned with what's right, rather than who's right.

RH is seeking a Gallery Host to join our team in providing world-class service to guests while taking great care of our equipment and facilities.
