JOB DESCRIPTION

The Server (Head Waiter/Waitress) is responsible for providing guests with an exceptional dining experience through attentive, polished, and professional service. This role oversees the full guest experience in their assigned section, from greeting and ordering to menu recommendations, service execution, and guest satisfaction. Working closely with the support team and management, the Server ensures that every detail of service reflects GAIA’s standards of excellence and hospitality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions

  • Deliver attentive and refined service, anticipating guest needs and exceeding expectations.
  • Manage assigned sections efficiently, ensuring each guest receives personalized and timely attention.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the menu, wine list, and daily specials to provide accurate recommendations.
  • Accurately take guest orders and communicate them to the kitchen and bar through the POS system.
  • Oversee table setup, presentation, and cleanliness, ensuring all service standards are met.
  • Ensure that each course is served promptly, correctly, and according to sequence.
  • Check back with guests to ensure satisfaction with food and service.
  • Maintain excellent communication with kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth and efficient service.
  • Assist in training and guiding Assistant Servers and support staff.
  • Handle payments, process transactions accurately, and maintain accountability for assigned checks.
  • Resolve guest complaints promptly and professionally, escalating to management as needed.
  • Support management in maintaining order, flow, and guest relations throughout service.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in daily briefings and pre-shift meetings to stay informed on menu changes and service details.
  • Assist with special events, private dining setups, and large parties as assigned.
  • Monitor inventory of service items and request replenishment as needed.
  • Maintain an organized and sanitary work area throughout service.
  • Adhere to GAIA’s grooming, uniform, and conduct standards at all times.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure a seamless and harmonious dining room operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support operational needs.

  • Proficiency in POS systems and order management software.
  • Excellent command of English; additional languages are a plus.
  • Food safety certification (e.g., ServSafe) preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods (up to 8–10 hours per shift).
  • Regularly required to reach, bend, lift, and carry trays, glassware, and dishes up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity required for handling service tools and operating POS terminals.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with guests and colleagues.
  • Ability to remain focused and composed in a busy, dynamic environment.

Work Environment

  • Fast-paced fine dining environment with moderate to high noise levels.
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor dining areas, varying temperatures, and occasional inclement weather.
