Job description

Our office is located in the Flatiron District, NYC and we are currently operating on a hybrid schedule, in office Monday through Wednesday and remote on Thursday and Friday.

Overview of Position

This position is for a designer on a team that spans outdoor, furniture, and hardlines categories across multiple Walmart private label home brands. The role is primarily a combination of design direction, supplier collaboration, and original design for indoor furniture categories including home office, bedroom, living room, kids, and bath. As workload ebbs and flows, this designer may also be asked to support the broader team across outdoor soft categories such as pillows and rugs, as well as hardlines.

This designer will be expected to stay on top of the market, understand sales data, and propose brand‑right but forward‑thinking innovation within their categories. They will partner with the Product Development team to understand the need and then execute on the design brief provided. This role reports into the Design Director.

Responsibilities
  • Provide design direction to suppliers and create original designs that are on-brand and commercially viable.
  • Collaborate with Design Director, Product Development counterparts, and sourcing partners to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve product and design issues.
  • Partner with the Product Development team to understand category needs and execute on design briefs.
  • Support business growth through PD partnership and proactive, innovation-driven design proposals.
  • Partner with peers across the team to ensure brand continuity across multiple Walmart private label home brands.
  • Support the broader team across outdoor, soft home, and hardlines categories as needed.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape, analyze sales data, and research new technologies and innovation pertaining to indoor furniture categories. Apply findings to inform design decisions and propose forward-thinking solutions.
  • Clear and concise communication during presentations/reviews to Upper Management, retail partners, and suppliers.
  • Diligent approach to workload, maintaining good, timely communication with internal and external teams.
  • Must have great design sensibility that marries back to the aesthetic of each brand and must be proactive in bringing workable, innovative designs to the table.
  • Adaptability, open to change; analyzes both successes and failures for clues to improvement; experiments and will try anything to find solutions.
Skills Summary
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design and 3+ years industry experience in Home categories
  • Background in designing furniture
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Strong and organized communication skills and follow-up
  • Ability to design & create renderings via Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop etc. & create presentations in PowerPoint. Ability to Planogram in InDesign is a plus.
  • Solidworks experience a plus
  • Experience designing in Keyshot

Salary Range $75,000-$95,000 base
