Job description

Job Title: Functional Safety Consultant.

Location, Auburn Hills, MI.

Experience:8+ Years.

Work authorization: Green Card and US Citizens.

Contract: Type:1099.

Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Functional Safety Consultant with expertise in automotive powertrain systems and ISO 26262 functional safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Functional Safety Analysis and define Item Definitions, including system functions, architecture, and interactions with interfacing systems.
  • Develop and maintain system models using tools such as Medini Analyze and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Conduct HAZOP and HARA activities to identify system malfunctions, determine ASIL ratings, define Safety Goals, and establish Safe States.
  • Identify and evaluate risks associated with system failures under various operating conditions.
  • Derive Functional Safety Requirements (FSRs) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs), and allocate them to appropriate hardware and software components.
  • Perform and review safety analyses, including FTA, FMEDA, and DFMEA.
  • Maintain end-to-end traceability of safety requirements across all V-model work products.
  • Develop and manage Safety Case documentation, ensuring compliance, completeness, and adherence to ISO 26262 throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and interfacing system owners to ensure alignment on safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Automotive, or a related engineering field.
  • 8+ years of experience in automotive electronics with a focus on powertrain functional safety.
  • Strong understanding of ISO 26262 functional safety standards.
  • Hands-on experience with Medini Analyze and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Expertise in HAZOP, HARA, FTA, FMEDA, and DFMEA.
  • Knowledge of automotive system architecture, powertrain systems, and ECU development.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
