Job description

Industrial Inspection & Analysis is looking for an experienced EMC/Test Engineer at our beautiful Alachua, FL location! We are looking for a motivated, team oriented, results driven individual to join the IIA team!


Position Summary

The EMC/Test Engineer is responsible for independently conducting EMC and RF/Wireless testing in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory environment. This role supports the Laboratory Manager and Project Manager in the planning, scheduling, execution, and reporting of testing activities while ensuring compliance with applicable national and international regulatory requirements. The EMC Engineer evaluates products for regulatory compliance and market access across global regions, including but not limited to the United States (FCC), Canada (ISED), Japan (MIC), European Union and United Kingdom (CE/UKCA), Hong Kong (OFCA), and Australia/New Zealand (ACMA). The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, customer-facing communication abilities, and a commitment to maintaining laboratory quality and accreditation requirements.

Essential duties and Responsibilities

Testing Activities

  • Perform EMC, EMI, RF, SAR, Electrical Safety, and Environmental Simulation testing in accordance with applicable national and international standards, regulatory requirements, laboratory procedures, and accreditation requirements.
  • Execute testing activities independently, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility, and technical integrity of all test results.
  • Identify and interpret applicable regulatory requirements, standards, and test methods.
  • Ensure all testing is conducted in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, laboratory quality procedures, and applicable safety practices.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and technically sound test reports and supporting documentation within established project timelines.
  • Maintain detailed records of test setups, procedures, results, observations, and deviations.
  • Execute projects in accordance with approved test plans, statements of work, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure the availability and proper operation of required test equipment, software, procedures, standards, and supporting resources necessary for effective test execution.


Laboratory Operations and Quality Assurance

  • Collaborate with Project Manager and Laboratory Manager to optimize laboratory scheduling, resource allocation, and project delivery.
  • Assist with equipment qualification, calibration coordination, maintenance activities, and uncertainty evaluations as required.
  • Support the development, review, and continuous improvement of laboratory procedures, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in internal audits, proficiency testing, corrective actions, preventive actions, and other quality management system activities to maintain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.

Certification and Regulatory Support

  • Collaborate with certification personnel and Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB) teams to support equipment authorization and certification activities.
  • Assist with market surveillance programs, production sample evaluations, regulatory follow-up activities, and technical reviews as required.
  • Stay current with evolving regulatory requirements, standards updates, and industry best practices affecting EMC, wireless, RF exposure, telecommunications, and product safety compliance.


Qualifications

Education, experience, and competencies required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of working experience as an EMC or Test Engineer at an accredited EMC/EMI test laboratory.
  • Proven hands-on experience performing EMC/RF testing in a regulatory compliance laboratory environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant standards and regulatory requirements, including FCC rules and regulations, ISED Canada standards, EU EN and ETSI standards.
  • Strong understanding of EMC/EMI, RF, wireless technologies, product safety, and regulatory compliance principles.
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical standards, regulations, and test procedures.
  • Proficiency with laboratory instrumentation, automated test systems, and data analysis tools.
  • Strong technical writing, report preparation, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and customer communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Highly professional, organized, and self-motivated.
