What is a Functional Medicine RN?

A Functional Medicine RN (Registered Nurse) is a nursing professional trained in the principles of functional medicine, which focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of disease rather than just treating symptoms. They work collaboratively with patients and interdisciplinary teams to develop personalized care plans that consider genetics, environment, and lifestyle factors. Functional Medicine RNs may provide patient education, health coaching, and support in areas such as nutrition, stress management, and preventive care. Their goal is to help patients achieve optimal wellness through holistic and evidence-based approaches.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Functional Medicine RN?

To thrive as a Functional Medicine RN, you need a solid foundation in nursing practice, a deep understanding of functional medicine principles, and an active RN license. Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), integrative health assessment tools, and functional lab testing is typically required. Exceptional communication, patient education, and motivational interviewing skills help build strong patient relationships and support lifestyle changes. These skills are essential for delivering personalized, holistic care that addresses root causes and promotes lasting patient wellness.

How does a Functional Medicine RN collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop patient care plans?

As a Functional Medicine RN, you'll work closely with physicians, dietitians, and other specialists to create comprehensive, personalized care plans for patients. Your role involves gathering detailed patient histories, assisting with diagnostic assessments, and communicating findings to the healthcare team. Collaboration is key, as you'll frequently participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient progress and adjust care plans based on evolving needs. This team-based approach helps ensure holistic and effective patient support throughout their treatment journey.

Job description

InfusaLounge Integrative & Functional Medicine is a physician-led clinic in Allen, Texas, focused on root-cause diagnostics, advanced therapies, and personalized functional medicine.

The clinic emphasizes thorough evaluation and individualized care for people experiencing chronic fatigue, hormone imbalance, gut issues, autoimmune symptoms, brain fog, and metabolic dysfunction. The team uses advanced functional lab testing, cardiometabolic panels, hormone and thyroid assessments, GI-MAP, micronutrient testing, and biological age analysis to uncover underlying drivers of illness.

Patients receive tailored care plans supported by therapies such as IV nutrient and NAD+ treatment, peptide therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, ozone and UVBI therapy, hormone optimization, red light therapy, medical weight loss, chelation, and regenerative medicine. InfusaLounge serves the North Dallas region, helping patients move from symptom management toward long-term wellness.

Role Description:
The Registered Nurse will provide direct patient care and support in an integrative and functional medicine setting, working closely with physicians and clinical staff. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing patient intake and assessments, administering IV nutrient therapy and other clinic treatments, monitoring patient responses, and documenting care in accordance with clinical protocols and regulatory standards. The nurse will educate patients on treatment plans, wellness strategies, and safety procedures, while helping coordinate laboratory testing, follow-up visits, and ongoing care. The role also involves maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment, preparing treatment rooms and equipment, and supporting quality improvement initiatives as the clinic grows. This is a contract, on-site role based at the InfusaLounge clinic in Allen, TX.

Qualifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas and good standing with the relevant licensing board.
  • Previous clinical experience in ambulatory care, integrative medicine, functional medicine, internal medicine, or a related outpatient setting.
  • Demonstrated skill in IV insertion and management, venipuncture, and safe administration of IV therapies and injections.
  • Strong assessment skills, including vital signs monitoring, symptom evaluation, and clinical documentation in electronic medical records.
  • Ability to educate patients clearly on treatment plans, procedures, and lifestyle recommendations, with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort working with advanced diagnostics and therapies such as hormone optimization, cardiometabolic testing, and other functional medicine protocols (training provided as needed).
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow clinical protocols while prioritizing patient safety and infection control standards.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team and adapt within a growing, patient-focused clinic environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn clinic-specific systems and documentation.
