Job description

Function Join our team as a Civil Engineering Technician and support projects that help shape and improve our community. In this role, you'll provide advanced technical and engineering support to the Public Works Senior Civil Engineer assigned to the Development Services Center. Working under general supervision, you'll independently perform complex technical assignments, develop effective work methods and procedures, review development-related plans and documents, and collaborate with City staff, developers, consultants, and the public to help ensure projects meet applicable standards and requirements.

Minimum Requirements Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a related field of study.

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a related field of study preferred. Three (3) years of increasingly responsible, full-time equivalent engineering experience in the areas of project design, and review/analysis of projects for conformance of established standards or closely related experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.

Must be Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation Certified Combined Administrator or obtain certification within one (1) year of employment. Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
