Job description

Function Join the City of Hampton as a Sr. Civil Engineer. Are you ready to apply your technical expertise to projects that shape your community.

Join the City of Hampton's Department of Public Works as a Sr. Civil Engineer and help shape the infrastructure that keeps our community moving. This position oversees planning, design, and construction activities with a strong focus on infrastructure management.

Working independently with limited supervision, the role reports progress through periodic meetings and contributes directly to the success of essential public works projects. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. Three (3) years of full-time equivalent experience in civil engineering. Some experience on VDOT funded projects preferred.

Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification or equivalent Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Virginia preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria. This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.

Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion. Additional Requirements Requires frequent travel throughout the city. Extensive contact with city departments and related outside agencies.

Requires some duties to be performed after normal working hours and outdoors in all weather conditions.
