Job description

Summary
Operates school buses safely under all types of weather conditions; Transports students and other authorized persons to and from school on regular, special education, and Magnet routes; Makes extracurricular trips as authorized by the local school system
Essential Duties
  • Operates the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner on a route prescribed by the Transportation Department
  • Conducts thorough pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and any special equipment
  • Maintains orderly conduct of student passengers
  • Reports unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of any person other than the driver
  • Operates the vehicle in accordance with the laws of the state of Georgia and the policies of the state and local board of education
  • Provides maximum safety for passengers while on the bus and during loading and unloading
  • Maintains routes and schedules as planned by the local school system personnel
  • Delivers bus to vehicle maintenance facility as directed by schedule, supervisory personnel, or vehicle maintenance personnel
  • Conducts emergency evacuation drills as required by local school system
  • Completes legible and accurate required reports in the prescribed manner
  • Keeps the assigned bus clean and sanitary at all times
  • Communicates effectively with the school staff and public
  • Attends all safety meetings
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator

Required Education
None required
Certification/Licensure
Must have a valid CDL B with Passenger, Air Brake and School Bus endorsements
Successful completion of pre-employment and random drug testing
Successful completion of pre-employment physical
Annual physical examination with result clearance
Must successfully complete abbreviated Bus Driver Training Program provided by Fulton County Schools Transportation Department
Experience Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years driving experience required; Exemplary driving record classified as no more than 2 moving violations in current 7 year driving history
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent driving record
  • Must be dependable
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal

Working Conditions
  • Extreme weather conditions to include heat, cold, wet and/or humid conditions
  • Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Risk of electrical shock

Physical Demands
  • Sitting for prolonged period of time
  • Lifting, bending, kneeling, crouching , reaching
  • Upper and lower body mobility
  • Ability to lift equipment and/or student weighing 40 pounds
