Job description

Job Description
  • Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Sr./Principal Fleet Service Project Manager ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.
  • As the Onboard/Onsite Fleet Service Project Manager responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising the correction of shipboard warranty, incomplete new construction, and Government tasked emergent repairs in the areas of Hull, Mechanical and Electrical.
  • Serve as onboard/onsite Fleet Service representative for extended periods of time resolving daily shipboard issues and/or supervising the execution of a project/work package. When not on the ship provide office support for the onboard rider.
  • Be on-call 24 hours/day, 365 days/year and prepared to travel on short notice anywhere in the world providing "quick response" customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership:
    • Follow all GDBIW and Govt. Safety Regulations.
  • Project Execution:
    • Manage subcontractors to execute tasked repairs in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Team Collaboration and Communication:
    • Coordinate efforts of Subcontractors and Ships Force to proactively solve issues.
    • Keep the Desk Man and other team members apprised of issues and resolutions.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Follow BIW Business Operating System principles and productivity enhancements.

Unique/Additional Requirements:

  • Secret Security Clearance.
  • Strong computer, oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team are required.
  • Offsite travel can approach 4 months or more on average in a one-year period.
  • Must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet ship's operational schedule demands.
  • Maintain a valid Passport.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering is required.
Required/Preferred Experience
  • Sr. Fleet Service Engineer: 5+ years' experience required.

  • Principal Fleet Service Engineer: 10+ years' experience required.

  • Candidates should have (5+) years of collective experience in Marine Engineering, USN or Commercial Fleet Lifecycle Support in the areas of maintenance and repair.
  • In-depth knowledge of DDG-51 Class Destroyers, along with experience gained in a Navy waterfront maintenance environment, will factor in the selection process.
  • Strong computer, oral, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills, coupled with the ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team are required.
  • Offsite travel can approach 4 months or more, on average, in a one-year period.
  • Must be able to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet ship's operational schedule demands.
