Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Software Certification Engineer 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting software process audits to verify that aviation product software is developed, documented, and released in a way that complies with all internal software development processes and aviation software standards (RTCA DO-178B/C) under the direction of a Software Certification mentor. This role will also work collaboratively with project teams to find and document evidence of compliance, and to address deficiencies as required as well as conduct and manage multiple release audits in parallel while maintaining thorough audits with high attention to detail.
Essential Functions
  • Conduct Aviation focused Software Quality Assurance audits to ensure compliance
  • Leverage Aviation quality standards and procedures and ensure they are applied on projects appropriately
  • Learn, interpret, and apply aviation software development standards - RTCA DO-178B/C
  • Review software documents, with keen attention to detail, for accuracy and compliance
  • Manage and communicate project status, challenges, and progress in a timely manner
  • Possess basic knowledge of requirements, design, coding, and testing standards
  • Apply RTCA DO-178B/C to ensure compliance throughout audits and reviews
  • Work with Software Engineering teams and internal certification experts to resolve audit and documentation issues
  • Develop software and engineering tools and scripts that aid in the completion of document or audit tasks
  • Provide Software Configuration Management (SCM) function by building and releasing software executables for production
  • Balance multiple project assignments and independent due dates using effective time management and prioritization

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or another related technical degree
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
  • Must be detail-oriented with the ability to maintain and deliver a high level of quality and accuracy
  • Be proficient in one or more software languages (C, Python, etc.)
  • Thoroughly documents work in high detail in an organized manner
  • Excellent time management and follow-up skills
  • Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others

Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater)
  • Experience in software processes and/or Aviation software standards - RTCA DO-178B/C
  • Experience in an auditing or similar role
