Job description

CHRISTUS Health St. Elizabeth is seeking a full-time Physician Advisor to join their team in Beaumont, TX. This administrative physician role involves teaching, consulting, and advising the Care Management Department and medical staff on physician practice patterns, documentation, resource utilization, and compliance. The Physician Advisor will also ensure physician support for Care Management and CDI Department initiatives by promoting effective and efficient physician documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Utilization Review Committee in collaboration with the Director of CM
  • Conduct secondary status reviews for appropriate level of care determination
  • Conduct peer-to-peer consults with payor medical directors for denied cases
  • Provide education to physicians and other clinicians related to regulatory requirements and utilization of alternate levels of care
  • Participate in daily IDRs to expedite testing and treatment and promote efficient patient care
  • Provide guidance/assistance to Emergency Department Physicians and CM staff for correct LOC designation at intake
  • Act as a liaison with payers to facilitate approvals and prevent denials
  • Partner with CDI leadership to provide staff education on CDI and appropriate documentation

Requirements

  • 5 years of clinical experience
  • Licensed physician in state of residence
  • Board certified in a clinical specialty
  • Experienced in clinical practice with an understanding of utilization review
  • Served on or chaired a Utilization Management Committee
  • Demonstrated cost-efficient practice
  • Certified by the American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians, Inc (ABQUARP) - preferred
