Job description

The Department of Perioperative Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH CTS Operating Room Associate. The successful candidate will:

  • Function in the capacity of a surgical technologist and assist with all surgical procedures.
  • Participate in the provision, monitoring and evaluation of care given to patients including, patient care, quality improvement, evaluation of technical competency of staff, evaluation of new products and equipment, and evaluation of instrument sterilization and maintenance. 
  • Responsible of the aftercare of the equipment and supplies.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the surgical team assisting in the identification, provision and support with learning needs of the staff, to achieve optimal patient outcome. 
  • Function as a preceptor for operating room staff and students in the scrub role. 
  • Transport patients to and from the operating room.

Required Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist or related training program and three (3) years of full-time Operating Room Surgical Technologist experience.
  • Certification as Surgical Technologist or within 1-year of employment.
