Join a Team Where Innovation Runs Deep

At Great Plains Industries (GPI), engineering excellence and entrepreneurial spirit are part of our DNA. As a leader in flow meter technology and cloud‑connected fluid management solutions, we thrive on creating products that help move industries forward. Our FLOMEC Flow Meter & Instrumentation team is looking for a highly skilled, customer‑focused Senior Applications Engineer who enjoys solving complex challenges, influencing product design, and serving as the technical authority for advanced applications.

If you’re energized by autonomy, technical depth, and meaningful customer impact, this is a great opportunity to grow with a company rooted in innovation and ready for the future.

Job Summary

The Senior Applications Engineer is the go‑to expert for flow meters and cloud‑connected measurement and fluid management solutions. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role leads complex customer applications, advanced integrations, and non-standard technical solutions. You will support strategic sales opportunities, collaborate on product direction, provide top-tier escalated support, and mentor technical team members—playing a key role in ensuring FLOMEC continues to deliver world‑class solutions.

What You’ll Do
  • Analyze complex customer applications, define optimal technical solutions, and guide strategy during the sales process
  • Serve as technical lead for high‑value OEM and enterprise accounts
  • Provide expert consultation on system-level design, feasibility, and trade‑offs
  • Troubleshoot flow meters and cloud-connected products via phone, email, video, and occasional on‑site visits
  • Support warranty and return evaluations in partnership with internal teams
  • Provide live, real-time support for installation, configuration, and system setup
  • Act as the final escalation point for advanced hardware, software, and system integration issues
  • Lead root‑cause analysis and collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Product teams to drive long‑term solutions
  • Mentor Product Technical Support team members and help develop their technical capabilities
  • Lead or co‑facilitate advanced technical training for internal teams, distributors, and key customers
  • Troubleshoot multi‑vendor systems involving PLCs, SCADA, FMS, and control loops
  • Recommend non-standard or customized solutions that balance technical risk and business value
  • Provide structured, actionable feedback to Product Management and Engineering for roadmap planning
  • Represent GPI as a technical ambassador at trade shows, customer visits, and industry events
  • Document activities using CRM, ERP, and collaboration tools
  • Develop advanced application notes, diagrams, and technical guidance
  • Identify documentation gaps and create materials to prevent recurring support issues
  • Adhere to all safety requirements, company policies, and ethical standards

This job description is not all‑inclusive. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years in applications engineering, technical sales support, or systems engineering within industrial products
  • Proven experience as a technical lead or escalation resource in customer‑facing environments
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience using CRM/ERP tools to document activities
  • Mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to master GPI, GPRO, and FLOMEC applications
  • Strong time‑management skills and ability to handle shifting priorities
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and follow‑through

About Great Plains Industries

More than product. We are a family of innovation

Great Plains Industries (GPI) was built on the belief that engineering, ingenuity, and perseverance can create opportunities that last for generations. Founded by engineer Charlie Peer, GPI began as a small entrepreneurial venture that grew into a global leader with a strong family‑owned heritage.

In 1968, Charlie launched his first business—Aerospace Systems and Components—by designing an air‑mixing valve for Learjet. As the aviation industry fluctuated, he recognized the stability and potential of the agriculture market. That insight led to the development of an evaporative air conditioning unit and a small transfer pump for combine cabs—products that became the foundation for the company’s future. Through years of innovation, engineering excellence, and building teams fueled by entrepreneurial spirit, Great Plains Industries has grown into the home of the GPI®, FLOMEC®, and GPRO® brands.

Today, our products serve a wide range of Industrial, Commercial, and Retail applications—including fuel, agriculture, chemicals, manufacturing, construction, mining, and oil & gas. Our legacy of durability, superior engineering, and strong customer relationships reflects our Midwestern values and deep commitment to the people and industries we serve.

In 2013, GPI expanded globally through the acquisition of Trimec Industries of Sydney, Australia—now Great Plains Industries Australia. As a leading manufacturer of flow meters and instrumentation, the addition of Trimec strengthened our global presence and upheld our tradition of reliability and world‑class engineering across Asia and Europe.

Backed by the strength of our holding company, Great Plains Ventures, GPI is positioned for a long and exciting future. GPV continues to invest in manufacturing excellence, modernizing processes, developing strong teams, and pursuing strategic acquisitions that support long‑term growth.

With two manufacturing and sales locations, we proudly support customers across the globe with localized expertise and a commitment to innovation, quality, and service.
