Description
Position: Maintenance Mechanic - Brewing
Department: Maintenance, Mill Creek Brewery, Pottsville, PA
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Summary: Yuengling is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic to oversee the continuous production in our brewing department. This includes brewing, fermentation, filtration, and all phases throughout hot-side and cold-side production. The purpose of this position is to effectively, efficiently, and safely meet all job requirements, abilities, accountabilities, and goals directed by the supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Perform ongoing checks of the production equipment.
  • Start-up/shutdown/changeover equipment as needed by operations.
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to any disruption of normal production.
  • Learn how to operate all equipment so if needed maintenance can be performed without an operator present.
  • Maintain appropriate records of all work performed on machinery (lubrication, adjustments, parts replacement, etc.).
  • Report any downtime or problem areas to Maintenance Manager, as well as completing a daily shift report.
  • Maintain equipment efficiency and always assist throughout the facility (unless otherwise directed).
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance activities according to the maintenance schedule. Where routine maintenance reveals larger problems, escalate to the Maintenance Manager to facilitate assistance as needed.
  • Provide input for the maintenance planning process.
  • Participate in postmortems by providing feedback on problems, opportunities and learnings from maintenance activities.
  • Monitor trends when conducting routine maintenance activities. Where trends indicate the existence of underlying problems, corrective action must be taken. This corrective action may involve the maintenance team, the packaging, brewing, or powerhouse teams and/or the Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensure parts are ordered by providing the information to the Maintenance Manager.
  • Continuously make improvements to the production equipment and environment for safety, quality and throughput concerns.
  • Willingness and ability to assist via remote troubleshooting where needed.
  • Immediately respond to any calls made by the Production Leads or Maintenance Manager.
  • Must perform other duties as required by the Immediate Supervisor.

Requirements
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Safety First - Understand safety requirements and use appropriate PPE for tasks.
  • Must have knowledge of hand tools.
  • Must have electrical background, and the ability to troubleshoot motor starters, drives, PLC faults, etc.
  • Self-initiating continuous improvement activities related to equipment reliability and performance.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with utility systems such as dearated water, CO2, air, and steam.
  • Understanding of brewery process piping, utility piping, drain systems.
  • Understanding of centrifugal and positive displacement pump technologies.
  • Understanding of sanitary process and environmental requirements in a brewing facility.
  • Understanding of motor drive systems (across the line starters, soft starters, VFD's).
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, and aerial lifts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to sanitary weld is a plus.
  • Some computer knowledge and PLC knowledge is required.

Physical Demands:
  • Required to move about facility.
  • Ascend/descend structures as needed.
  • Ability to lift 70 lbs.
  • May be required to perform additional duties as requested, directed or assigned.
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment for the entire shift.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and using safety harnesses.

Required Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma.
  • Additional technical schooling or training is a plus.
