A Full Time Yard Switcher is a logistics professional responsible for moving trailers and containers within a freight yard, warehouse, or distribution center. Their main job is to safely and efficiently reposition trailers between loading docks, parking spots, and staging areas as required. This role involves operating specialized vehicles called yard trucks or terminal tractors, and ensuring that trailers are in the correct locations for loading and unloading. Full Time Yard Switchers play a critical role in keeping warehouse operations smooth and organized, often working closely with warehouse staff and truck drivers to maintain a steady flow of goods.

Do you need a CDL to be a yard switcher?

Yes, a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is typically required for yard switchers, especially when operating large or specialized equipment. Some positions may require additional certifications or training depending on the company's safety policies and the equipment used.
