Job description

Position Title: Full-Time Custodian/Groundskeeper
Location: Highland Center - Bretton Woods, New Hampshire
Reports To: Housekeeping Supervisor
Ready to dive into epic outdoor adventures and make a positive impact on the environment? Look no further than the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) - the oldest conservation, education, and recreation organization in the USA! Our passion for the outdoors knows no bounds, and we want YOU to be a part of it. As an employee, you'll unlock access to exciting programs, policies, and procedures that empower you to make a real difference. Join the AMC team now and embark on the journey of a lifetime!
We are currently seeking a custodian/groundskeeper to join our lodge crew at the Highland Center Lodge in the world-renowned Crawford Notch, nestled in the heart of the White Mountains. This team member plays a critical part in welcoming guests to our lodge by keeping both our indoor and outdoor spaces clean and operable. Throughout the workday, the custodian interacts with guests and other staff members as they move through the lodge. Close cooperation and coordination with other AMC departments are essential to the success of the position.
What you'll be doing at AMC
  • Promoting a team approach by providing support to those within the department as well as those in other departments. This may include supporting housekeeping shifts and/or collaborating with the maintenance department.
  • Maintaining exterior grounds (mowing, landscaping, seasonal garden duties, etc.)
  • Cleaning bathrooms, meeting spaces, and other public areas on a daily basis.
  • Leading snow removal efforts (shoveling and sanding) and overseeing wood furnace operations (stacking wood, feeding fire).
  • Assisting the Housekeeping Supervisor with training and consistent direction of the seasonal custodial and housekeeping staff.
  • Assisting with ongoing deep cleaning and special projects as required.
  • Organizing and coordinating campus-wide recycling and composting programs, including maintaining composting toilet systems.
  • Maintaining property features including interpretive trails, sandboxes and our playscape playground.
  • Assisting with outdoor event set-ups, including concerts and weddings

What AMC is looking for
  • Prior hospitality/custodial experience is desirable.
  • All AMC positions require excellent guest services skills and a demonstrated commitment to the goals of the organization.
  • Proven ability to successfully accomplish multiple tasks without direct supervision, required.
  • Candidate must have reliable transportation.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with people of different backgrounds
  • Must be willing to work weekends, holidays, mornings and evenings.
  • Physical requirements include ability lift 60 pounds, ability to climb multiple levels of stairs repeatedly, bending, twisting and reaching motions, and the ability to perform physically demanding work such as snow shoveling, and other responsibilities as assigned by the housekeeping supervisor or general manager.

What AMC Can Offer You
Salary range: $15.00- $17.00/hr
We are committed to fair compensation practices, and we encourage qualified candidates to apply. The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
Benefits
  • Health Plan: Generous employer contributions with optional vision and dental.
  • Other Insurance: 100% employer paid life insurance, AD&D insurance, long-term disability.
  • Career Progression: The potential to have annual compensation reviews commensurate with performance and effort.
  • Retirement: Voluntary 403(b) with 4% matching employer contributions and a vesting schedule.
  • Paid Time Off: up to 4 weeks of paid earned time and up to 11 paid company holidays.
  • Other Team Member Perks:
    • 30% discount on AMC Merchandise
    • Free Annual AMC Membership
    • 10 Free nights at AMC locations
    • Educational Assistance
    • Prodeals discounts on equipment & gear and more!

Please submit your resume and a brief cover letter explaining your interest in the role. No phone calls or agencies, please.
