Full Time Weekend Software Developer information

What is a full time weekend software developer?

A Full Time Weekend Software Developer is a professional who works primarily on weekends, usually Saturday and Sunday, but may also include Fridays or Mondays depending on the employer. These developers typically work full-time hours condensed over the weekend rather than the traditional Monday to Friday schedule. Their responsibilities include designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications. This role is ideal for companies that require continuous development support or maintenance outside regular business hours. It also suits individuals seeking flexible work arrangements or those balancing other commitments during the week.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time weekend software developer?

To thrive as a Full Time Weekend Software Developer, you need strong programming skills, familiarity with software development life cycles, and typically a degree in computer science or related fields. Proficiency with version control systems like Git, common frameworks (such as React or .NET), and project management tools is often required. Adaptability, effective communication, and time management are vital soft skills for collaborating remotely and balancing workload during limited hours. These abilities ensure that high-quality code is delivered efficiently and reliably, even within the unique constraints of a weekend-focused schedule.

How does the schedule of a full time weekend software developer typically differ from traditional weekday developer roles?

A Full Time Weekend Software Developer generally works primarily on Saturdays and Sundays, often covering shifts that support 24/7 operations or project deadlines that require continuous progress. This schedule can offer more flexibility during the week, but may require strong time management to coordinate with team members working standard hours. Weekend developers frequently collaborate through digital tools to stay aligned with weekday teams, and may be expected to handle critical support, maintenance, or deployments when system usage is lower. Adapting to asynchronous communication and self-directed work is often essential for success in this unique work structure.

Do full time weekend software developers work on weekends?

Full time weekend software developers typically work during weekends as part of their scheduled hours, which may include Saturday and Sunday. Their work schedule depends on the employer's needs and project deadlines, and some roles may require flexibility to cover weekend support or releases. It is important to clarify the specific schedule during the hiring process.

Why You’ll Enjoy this Role * Build the secure API layer connecting external applications to our core SCADA/ADMS platform. * Help create a greenfield configuration application used by utility engineers to manage live databases and SCADA settings. * Influence the architecture, technology stack, development standards, and technical direction of new applications. * Solve meaningful challenges involving cybersecurity, authentication, scalability, and performance * Work across the full technology stack, from modern React interfaces to .NET APIs, databases, and real-time communications. What You’ll be Doing * Design and develop a secure DMZ-to-core API gateway that allows external applications to safely exchange data with the SCADA/ADMS platform. * Apply threat modelling, authentication, data protection, and performance optimization to maintain a regulated isolation boundary. * Build a new configuration application that enables utility engineers to manage live grid databases and SCADA settings. * Help define the architecture, technology stack, development standards, and technical direction for new applications. * Design and build RESTful APIs and full-stack web applications. * Take ownership of client-side and server-side architecture. * Optimize applications for performance, scalability, security, and operation under heavy loads. * Write tests and deliver dependable, mission-critical software where accuracy and correctness are essential. * Comply with Survalent’ s ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Information Security Management System (ISMS) Policy. * Comply with Survalent’ s ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) Policy. * Other duties as required What You’ll Bring * Degree or diploma in Computer Science, or equivalent experience. * 5 years of full-stack development experience. * Experience with React, JavaScript/TypeScript, and related front-end development tools. * Experience with C#, ASP.NET Core Web API, microservices, identity authentication, and SignalR/WebSockets. * Experience with SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis. * Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, multithreading, and performance-focused design. * Experience with Git, Docker, and CI-style workflows. * Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally. * Experience with C++, WPF, Windows Forms, mapping libraries, encrypted data, or real-time systems is an asset.
