At AVETS, you'll join a highly collaborative specialty and emergency hospital where advanced medicine, teamwork, and compassionate care come together to deliver exceptional outcomes for patients and families. We are seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Surgeon who is passionate about practicing high-level surgical medicine while working alongside a talented team of specialists, emergency clinicians, and dedicated support staff.
As a VECCS Level I facility, AVETS provides 24/7 emergency and specialty care across a wide range of disciplines, including Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Avian & Exotic Medicine, and Surgery. Our multidisciplinary approach encourages collaboration across services, allowing specialists to develop comprehensive treatment plans and provide advanced, individualized care for complex cases throughout Western Pennsylvania and the surrounding tri-state region.
Our purpose-built 19,000-square-foot hospital is equipped with the technology and resources needed to support an advanced surgical service, including four surgical suites, a 16-slice CT scanner, 1.5 Tesla MRI, dedicated Critical Care Unit, Karl Storz endoscopy equipment, and advanced ultrasound capabilities. You'll work alongside experienced specialists, veterinary nurses, emergency doctors, and support professionals who value communication, mentorship, collaboration, and clinical excellence.

โ€ข The anticipated starting base salary range for individuals expressing interest in this position is $240,000 to $300,000 per year.
In your day-to-day, you will:
โ€ข Balance your time between surgical consultations, advanced diagnostic workups, operative procedures, and post-operative patient management to deliver exceptional patient care.
โ€ข Perform a broad range of orthopedic and soft tissue surgical procedures utilizing advanced imaging, endoscopy, and specialty hospital resources.
โ€ข Collaborate closely with specialists in Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Neurology, Avian & Exotic Medicine, and Emergency Services to support integrated case management and optimize patient outcomes.
โ€ข Utilize advanced hospital technology including CT, MRI, advanced ultrasound, and endoscopy equipment to support surgical planning, diagnosis, and treatment.
โ€ข Help shape and grow the surgical service in alignment with hospital priorities, referral community needs, and long-term strategic goals.
โ€ข Work alongside a dedicated surgical nursing and support team committed to clinical excellence, patient advocacy, and outstanding client service.
โ€ข Build trusted partnerships with referring veterinarians through timely communication, collaborative case management, and expert surgical consultation.
โ€ข Guide pet owners through surgical recommendations, treatment plans, and recovery expectations with empathy, transparency, and confidence.

What You Bring
โ€ข DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
โ€ข Board Certification in Surgery (DACVS-SA) or Residency Trained in Small Animal Surgery.
