Job description

Introduction
Our client is a hospital providing care for cats and dogs and is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon to join their Emergency and Specialty team. Full-time and part-time opportunities are available for an experienced Board-Certified or Residency-Trained Small Animal Surgeon. This role offers the opportunity to work within an established surgical department in a collaborative referral hospital committed to advanced veterinary medicine, clinical excellence, and exceptional patient outcomes.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Surgeon will provide advanced surgical care across a diverse caseload including soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, and emergency surgical procedures. Responsibilities include evaluating surgical candidates, developing individualized treatment plans, performing advanced surgical procedures, and participating in emergency surgical coverage within a 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with specialists across Internal Medicine, Oncology, Radiology, Emergency and Critical Care, and other specialty services to provide seamless multidisciplinary care. Additional responsibilities include mentoring Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, interns, and members of the surgical support team, participating in surgical case rounds and continuing education, maintaining accurate medical records using EzyVet and Smart Flow, and communicating clearly with clients, referring veterinarians, and colleagues. This position is suited to an experienced Board-Certified or Residency-Trained Veterinary Surgeon.

Practice Details
This AAHA-accredited 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital has been serving Western New York for more than 30 years, providing advanced emergency, specialty, and referral services for cats and dogs. The hospital is equipped with advanced diagnostic and surgical technology including digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, CT imaging, and comprehensive in-house laboratory services. The expanding surgical department manages a varied referral caseload encompassing soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, and emergency surgery, supported by experienced technical staff and a strong regional referral network. Veterinary services include primary care and wellness, behaviour consultations, dental care, a blood donor program, senior pet care, anesthesiology, intensive care and hospitalization, advanced diagnostics and imaging, internal medicine, oncology, surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, and end-of-life services. The collaborative culture promotes mentorship, continuing education, professional development, and teamwork while providing the resources and autonomy needed to deliver high-quality specialty medicine. The hospital is open 24 hours a day for emergency care.

Team
The hospital is supported by a collaborative team of 26 DVMs and a great tenured support staff. Veterinary surgeons work alongside specialists, emergency clinicians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians, and experienced support staff in a multidisciplinary environment focused on exceptional patient care, communication, and ongoing professional development.

  • Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
  • Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
  • Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
