About the Role:
The Traditional Arts Instructor is a key line-level position responsible for working with all age groups, giving instructions and demonstrations on various traditional Southeastern American Indian Art forms and techniques. This job description is not an all-inclusive list of the duties and responsibilities of this position. PCI Employees are expected to perform all duties and responsibilities necessary to meet the goals and objectives of applicable programs and departmental objectives, as assigned.
This role plays a strong commitment to understanding and embracing the Poarch Creek Indians Values of Perseverance, Opportunity, Accountability, Respect, Culture, and Honesty.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach traditional Southeastern Indian arts, including Creek basketry, patchwork, beadwork, sewing, finger weaving, and moccasin making.
  • Prepare materials and lead engaging cultural classes, demonstrations, and events for all age groups.
  • Foster a positive and welcoming learning environment.
  • Assist with cultural presentations, traditional programs, and Tribal sewing projects as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, prepare required reports, and keep classrooms and storage areas organized.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Core Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Business or related field and/or a combination of education and related employment experience in a confidential setting equivalent to two (2) years required.
  • Experience and knowledge with designing and sewing of Poarch Creek regalia and/or outfits required.
  • Demonstration and/or instructional experience in traditional art forms such as early Creek Indian history and Poarch Creek history required.
  • Must possess certification of "Mandatory Reporter Training" or obtain during the first week of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must possess certification of "ServSafe Training" or obtain within thirty (30) days of employment.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license and an insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.

Essential Competencies:
  • Portfolio demonstrating experience creating traditional Native American art forms required.
  • Experience operating a sewing machine; must pass a sewing and patchwork skills test.
  • Strong knowledge of Native American culture, especially Poarch Creek culture; must pass a cultural knowledge test.
  • Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; must pass a computer skills assessment.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Comfortable working with all age groups and diverse populations.
  • Willingness to work cultural events, travel for training, and serve as a chaperone when needed.
  • Reliable, accountable, and committed to completing assignments while following policies and procedures.
