The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Assistant Director of Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction, UNLV Academic Success [R0152758]
ROLE of the POSITION
University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) is seeking an Assistant Director of Tutoring and Supplemental Instruction to join the Student Success team. This leadership position plays a key role in advancing institutional priorities, including UNLV's Top Tier initiatives focused on student retention, progression, and completion. This reports directly to the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Learning Services.
The Assistant Director provides strategic and operational leadership for campus-wide learning support services, including in-person and virtual tutoring, embedded tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, the Rebel Learning Lounge, and related academic support programs. This role requires a collaborative and data-informed leader committed to expanding access to high-quality academic support and enhancing undergraduate student success.
The position is responsible for managing the daily operations of comprehensive learning support programs serving a diverse undergraduate population. This includes supervising a team that consists of a full-time coordinator, three to six graduate assistants, and approximately 60-150 student employees depending on funding. Responsibilities include staff recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, and timekeeping. The Assistant Director also works closely with unit leadership and the business manager to monitor student employee hours and ensure alignment with the allocated budget. A strong understanding of learning support strategies, national best practices, and effective promotion of services is essential.
The Assistant Director leads assessment efforts for all learning support programs, including the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement. This includes preparing mid-semester updates as well as required semester and annual assessment reports, along with responding to additional data requests as needed.
This role requires active collaboration with faculty, department chairs, and campus partners to ensure that learning support services align with the needs of students enrolled in courses. The Assistant Director partners with programs and units such as Math Bridge Programs, the Writing Center, Communication Labs, and the Disability Resource Center to strengthen coordinated academic support across campus.
In addition, the Assistant Director is expected to identify and implement opportunities to enhance and expand learning support services to better serve undergraduate students. This requires innovative thinking, strong leadership and communication skills, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous improvement and student success.
This is a full-time, in-person position. Other duties will be assigned. Evening and weekend hours may be required based on program needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires master's from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). This position requires at least three (3) years of documented higher education experiences in a relevant area. The position also requires 1-3 years of managing temporary and/or full-time employees. Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred experience working with a student success program at a college/university. Documented experience managing student-workers at a college/university is preferred.
