Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) supervisor carries out tasks as part of the Weld team in support of JARP Operations and JARP Engineering. Frequent and direct interaction with interested parties such as JARP employees, customers and suppliers is required, along with communication across the business. The CWI supervisor will be responsible for welding standards, procedures, instructions, prints and equipment, providing monitoring, measurement and analysis services of weld operations and processes, and assisting in driving improvement methodologies related to weld across the business. Hiring, mentoring and training of new employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for standards, specifications, techniques, processes, procedures, instructions, forms and other documents related to JARP's welding processes (ex: AWS D1.1, AWS D14.9, ASME IX, OI, WI, SWI, ECT.).
2. Research and development of new technology
3. Budget creation, Adherence and tracking.
4. Cost analysis of designs and cost reductions where possible.
5. Perform return on investments analysis on capital investments.
6. Support Operations in the day-to-day verification and visual inspection (VT) of welded products and of welding processes, to ensure ongoing compliance with all federal, state, and industry welding regulations.
7. Support Engineering in the understanding of customer requirements relating to weld, and in the evaluation of usual, unusual or otherwise complex materials, heating requirements or other material science related to product performance and functionality.
8. Creation of, or prepare, technical reports related to welding as required.
9. Coordinate and perform the continued training and evaluation of all JARP welders to ensure conformance with all related standards, and provide CWI or other American Welding Society (AWS) support and development as necessary to individuals or the business.
10. Day-to-day support in the investigation of JARP customer complaints when required.
11. Support of Root Cause Analysis for instances of nonconformance with products and services involving welded components.
12. Assist with returned / nonconforming product and material as part of JARP's Warranty Evaluation process as required.
13. Overall responsibility for following JARP's internal Quality Management System (QMS) audit program as a member of the Quality team, with specific focus on welding processes and documentation.
14. Manage welding team with Continuous Improvement (CI) projects.
15. Help Identify nonconformities such as repeat weld related issues with orientation, weld leaks, weld quality.
16. Manage design of jigs and fixtures as well as designing of fixtures.
17. Authority of PQR/ WPS welder qualification to AWS D1.1, AWS D 14.9, AWS B2., IX ASME.
18. Maintains basic welding equipment. Schedule maintenance with welding equipment failures, verify calibration of welding equipment.
19. Verifying welding consumables shelf life.
20. New jobs, first time run inspection and sign off.
21. Create, manage, and approve change requests for engineering approval.
22. Manage projects (R&D) Development with Engineering.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSBILITIES:
1. Certified Welding Inspectors 1 and 2
2. Robotic Programmers
3. Weld Leads (indirect)
4. Weld trainers (indirect)
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
1. 5 years minimum cumulative experience in similar or related roles, preferably within a manufacturing or engineering environment (e.g. CWI, Welder, robotic welding, Welding Engineer etc.).
2. 3-5 years supervisory experience
3. Mentoring and training of individuals and small groups is required.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
American Welding Society (AWS) - Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credentials and up to date.
Further areas of study that would be desirable are:
1. AWS Certified welding Supervisor
2. ASME endorsement
3. Military welding code Navsea etc...
4. Certified Process Analyst
5. Six Sigma (Yellow / Green belt)
6. Certified Reliability Engineer
7. PT and MT certified to ANSI
8. UT in house testing.
Other certifications held by the individual will be reviewed for suitability towards successfully performing the role.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1. Excellent technical drawing and blueprint interpretation skills.
2. Knowledge of PQR/ WPS to AWS D1.1
3. Working knowledge of NDT/ NDE techniques.
a. Ability to perform magnetic particle inspection (MT) and Dye penetrant testing (PT) to ANSI or obtain within pre-determined time frame.
4. Good strategic abilities - can understand situations quickly and carry out suitable measures and countermeasures.
5. Strong team working abilities; will not dismiss or rebuff others and can demonstrate the capability to agree or disagree constructively when necessary.
6. Good negotiation skills and the ability to resolve issues by identifying effective courses of action.
7. Goal-oriented, with the ability to self-prioritize effectively.
8. First class communication skills, with the ability to interact appropriately with all levels of the business.
9. Excellent writing, reading, oral and technical presentation skills.
10. Excellent computer literacy, including the ability to adapt quickly to new software, technology and similar.

1. Quality Management System (QMS) Auditor
