Job description

Houghton/Iron River, Michigan

About us:

Listen UP Radio is a part of the Morgan Murphy Media company. We are a family-owned, people first business found in Houghton, MI, and our community is at the core of what we do and who we are. We are looking for play-by-play announcers for our high school sports schedules on our four radio stations.

Sports to be covered are football, volleyball, soccer, hockey, basketball, baseball, and softball. Schools to be covered include Calumet, Houghton, Hancock, Jeffers, and Lake Linden and their opponents.

Hours worked will be based on games scheduled for candidate. Each game will be paid a flat $80.

What You will Do:

· Arrive to the event with plenty of time to set up equipment, record coach's interviews, and be ready to broadcast the contest, with a pregame typically 20 minutes before listed start time.

· Research the teams participating in the game to give a complete and accurate telling of the story.

· Keep track of statistics during the game.

· Follow the format of the broadcast to the best of your ability and work with the board operator to ensure that all advertisements scheduled for the game have been played.

· Read live copy for additional advertisements, intros, and sponsorships throughout the broadcast.

· Get a summary of your completed game for the sports department in the next day's reports.

What You will Bring:

· Some expertise in the sports that you will broadcast

· A positive and uplifting broadcast of the game, keeping negativity, bias, and complaints about participants, officials, and schools out of the broadcast.

· An understanding about the flow of your broadcast and following the format designed for it

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· A great personality when dealing with students, schools, coaches, officials, and the general public.

· Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
