What is a full time temp?

A Full Time Temp, or full-time temporary employee, is someone who works the standard full-time hours for a company but is hired on a temporary basis. These positions often fill short-term needs such as covering for employees on leave or assisting with special projects. Although Full Time Temps typically work the same hours as permanent staff, their employment is limited to a specific timeframe, after which their contract ends. They may or may not receive benefits, depending on the employer’s policies and the duration of their assignment.

What is the difference between Full Time Temp vs Part Time Temp?

AspectFull Time TempPart Time Temp
Work HoursTypically 35-40 hours per weekLess than 30 hours per week
Employment DurationUsually for a set period or projectOften on a flexible or as-needed basis
BenefitsMay include limited or no benefitsGenerally no benefits

Full Time Temp roles involve working standard full-time hours for a temporary period, often with similar responsibilities as permanent staff. Part Time Temp roles involve fewer hours, offering flexibility but typically without benefits. Both are used for short-term staffing needs, but Full Time Temp positions are more suitable for projects requiring consistent coverage over a set period.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a full time temp, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Full Time Temp, you need adaptability, reliability, and a quick learning ability, often supported by a general educational background or relevant experience. Familiarity with basic office software like Microsoft Office Suite, email systems, or industry-specific tools is frequently required. Strong communication, time management, and teamwork skills help you integrate quickly and perform effectively in diverse environments. These abilities enable temps to meet employer needs efficiently and make a positive impact during temporary assignments.

What are some common challenges faced by full time temp employees, and how can they be managed effectively?

Full Time Temp employees often face challenges such as adapting quickly to new environments, learning company-specific processes on short notice, and establishing relationships with permanent staff.
