Job description

Job Purpose:
The Systems Engineer oversees and coordinates the work of technical teams on systems projects, ensuring the successful design, implementation, operation, and technical management of those projects.
Taking a holistic approach to systems engineering, the Systems Engineer ensures that all aspects of a system project are considered and addressed.
The Systems Engineer works closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and then develops and documents technical requirements that meet those needs.
The Systems Engineer leads the design team in developing a system architecture that meets all of the requirements.
After the system is designed, the Systems Engineer oversees the implementation of the system, working with the implementation team to ensure that it meets all of the requirements.
Once the system is deployed, the Systems Engineer manages the technical aspects of the system, including monitoring performance, troubleshooting problems, and making improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate product or system requirements gathering and analysis with sponsors and other key stakeholders.
  • Verify systems engineering product life-cycle components to include definitions, requirements analysis, synthesis, systems analysis and implementation.
  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of moderate complexity to include defining and refining internal and external interfaces.
  • Develop and contribute to technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.
  • Analyze product or system functionality as defined by requirements

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Perform the role of a project engineer supporting technical direction to the team and translation of technical efforts into program management products.
  • Design embedded software for embedded systems including both core and application software.
  • Develop system and software requirements and design.
  • Translate between project management intent and technical direction to the development team.
  • Create project schedules (MS Project) and project plans from customer requirements and tasking.
  • Manage MS project schedules including status, resource leveling, and critical path.
  • Develop and enforce system and software development processes.
  • Support the project manager in day-to-day project management with development team and customer.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience with development of embedded military systems software in C/C++ and/or Ada.
  • Experience development system requirements and design products.
  • Experience developing MS project schedules status, resource leveling, and critical path.
  • Experience leading agile development teams.
  • Experience developing spend plans and tracking financial data.
  • Experience leading technical development projects covering systems engineering and software development.
  • Experience integrating multiple subsystems.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Experience using MBSE using Cameo.
  • Experience with Atlassian products.
  • Experience with GitLab or similar CM tools.
  • Experience interfacing with customers for both technical and project management aspects.
  • Experience integrating subsystems in complex military systems.
  • Experience with Tactical Data Links and/or Electronic Warfare.

Travel Requirements:
  • 10% - 25% travel.

Education and Length of Experience:
  • 5-9 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or any technical degree.
  • 3-7 years of related experience with a Masters' degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or any technical degree.
  • 0-4 years of related experience with a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or any technical degree.
