POSITION SUMMARY
The Cabin Leader will further the mission of Roundup River Ranch by relating positively to campers, looking after their daytime and night-time needs, and accompanying campers through their schedule of activities all while maintaining a physically and emotionally supportive environment. Cabin Leaders contribute to the overall facilitation of evening programs and select camp programs. They welcome volunteers each week and empower them as members of the camp team. This residential role can expect to work extended days typical of a camp environment, with regular time off scheduled each day and at least 2 days off after each session.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Job Responsibilities: General
  • Ensure all cabin activities support the mission, vision, and values of Roundup River Ranch.
  • Ensure that the cabin is a physically and emotionally safe environment at all times.
  • Integrate and support volunteers at camp; providing them with training as needed.
  • Provide behavioral support to campers; including regular and encouraging feedback, acknowledging camper achievements, supporting group dynamics, and being aware of campers fears and concerns.
  • Be fully aware of all safety and emergency procedures and ensure campers are aware of and understand the safety rules at all times. Execute emergency procedures when required.
  • Maintain camper and colleague confidentiality at all times.
  • Abide by and comply with all policies and procedures as listed in the staff contract, manual, and staff orientation.
  • Nurture a culture of safety and ensure the camp property is respected.
  • Act professionally and as a role model for campers, volunteers, and staff.
  • Attend and participate in all trainings, meetings, and planning sessions.
  • Take an active role with the assigned cabin team.
  • Be punctual in following the assigned schedule.
  • Ensure cabins and living spaces are clean and tidy at all times, including before volunteer arrival; including some housekeeping duties i.e. cleaning restrooms, sweeping, mopping, etc.
  • Participate in the camp set up and shut down for each session and the summer season.

Job Responsibilities: Specific
  • Know where the campers in your cabin are at all times and report missing campers immediately
  • Assist campers with personal care and assistance of daily living as needed, including but not limited to assisting campers with toileting and showers, changing, and washing camper clothes.
  • Coordinate: cabin duty/break schedules, nightly cabin meetings, all cabin activities, cabin clean-up, candle chat, free time, and cabin night.
  • Integrate cabin volunteers and program staff in the cabin environment.
  • Provide volunteers with training as needed, including assisting them through volunteer orientation.
  • Ensure campers develop a positive daily routine, including morning and bedtime routines and meal timeliness.
  • Assist as needed with planning and leading all camp activities, including evening programs, themed days and meals, planning skits and songs.
  • Actively strive to positively incorporate feedback and direction from peers and leadership/admin staff.
  • Support fellow staff with camper hygiene, monitoring camper's health, and cabin administrative duties.
  • Be familiar with all information available on each group of campers, including the medical and behavior alert lists, and any other information provided by the Admin/Medical teams.
  • Actively facilitate friendships between campers, and handle group dynamics in a fair and age-appropriate manner.
  • Monitor campers' health on a daily basis and report any changes to the medical team immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Be able to demonstrate or participate in camp activities as they supervise and parallel play with campers: this will require the ability to walk, sit, climb, kneel, crouch, stoop, and stand.
  • This role requires the ability to supervise campers in a variety of settings, including maintaining awareness of camper behavior and safety. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Age 19 years old, or older
  • Previous experience working with children and/or special needs populations

Special Requirements
This is a residential position. Accommodation will be provided for the duration of the contract, and meals will be provided while camp is in session.
