HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO
Georgia State University Department of Recreational Services is searching for an outstanding candidate to fill the role of Assistant Director, Competitive Sports. This position is based at the Downtown Atlanta campus. This position will work some nights and weekends.
Primary responsibilities include:
  • Developing, promoting and implementing a comprehensive sports program of team, individual, and club sports organizations. Assist with assessment efforts focusing on identifying participation levels, program participant interest, and learning and development objectives. Develop recommendations and implement new program and activities. Develop risk management procedures to include student travel, participant safety and emergency action plans, and act as primary liaison with the department Safety and Risk Management.
  • Supervise, mentor, evaluate and effectively directly lead 1 full-time Coordinator, Competitive Sports and indirectly lead 7 Graduate Assistants, 55+ student assistants and 30+ volunteers. Support with the recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling of student staff in the positions of program assistants, sports assistants and officials.
  • Maintain effective working relationship with the Associate Director and Marketing Specialist to develop marketing strategies and promotional materials. Collaborate with campus partners that include but not limited to GSU Police, Greek Life, and Athletics to develop collaborative program and services that support student success. Work with the Business Services staff in developing and managing the Competitive Sports program budget(s) to include payroll, equipment and supplies. Initiate all club travel authorization and reimbursement forms.
  • Manage and maintain current fleet of vehicles and trailers. Ensure drivers are authorized and trained accordingly. Administer van reservation process for department programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and four years of related experience, or a combination of education and related experience.

Preferred Hiring Requirements:
  • Master's degree in Recreation, Sports Administration or related field. 3 years of experience specific with either Intramural or Sport Club programming in a University Recreation program. High School or equivalent officiating experience in a variety of sports.
