WBMA/WJSU/WCFT has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Sports Reporter in Birmingham, Alabama! In this role, you will be required to produce daily content on a variety of platforms including digital, social, and broadcast, along with performing other duties as assigned by the Sports Director and News Managers.

We are looking for a dynamic storyteller who thrives on both digital and broadcast platforms. If you're interested in just scores and highlights, this is not the job for you. We are an aggressive sports department that strives to lead the market with impactful, enterprise-driven coverage.

Birmingham is one of the most passionate sports markets in the country. You'll cover the Alabama Crimson Tide, Auburn Tigers, UAB Blazers, the SEC, high school football, and a wide range of local and regional sports that matter deeply to our audience. The ability to connect with fans and tell meaningful stories beyond the field is critical.

The ideal candidate must be able to work under tight deadlines and on a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. We're looking for someone who knows how to dig for stories, research thoroughly, write with edge, and use strong visual storytelling and production to create memorable content.

Strong writing skills, current sports knowledge, and the ability to deliver dynamic live shots are essential. Creativity, energy, and a competitive spirit are a must.

Skills and Experience:

  • A self-starter and who can generate his or her own story ideas on a daily basis
  • Ability to demonstrate enterprise reporting and creativity in storytelling
  • Exemplary communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to maintain an active social media presence to build your brand and solicit original story ideas

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Previous anchoring experience is required
  • Must have at least two years of on-air experience
  • Ability to travel to sporting events throughout the year
  • Live shot experience is required
  • Previous experience working in a team environment is a must
