Job description


Position Summary:

The Instructional Designer plays a key role in supporting the design, development, and delivery of high-quality learning experiences across Hayes/Knight-Swift Warehousing & Fulfillment. This role partners closely with the Senior Instructional Designer, departmental leaders, HR, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to create engaging training content that enhances operational performance, leadership capability, and employee development.


The Instructional Designer is responsible for producing blended learning solutions—including e-learning, instructor-led training, job aids, simulations, and on-the-job tools—that align with WEROQ values, organizational objectives, and the fast-paced reality of the warehousing and logistics industry. This role supports the build-out of enterprise programs and scalable onboarding initiatives across multiple sites.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designs and develops engaging blended learning content using instructional design best practices, adult learning principles, and operational relevance.
  • Builds high-quality learning assets, including e-learning modules, instructor-led materials, facilitator guides, job aids, simulations, and assessments.
  • Collaborates with SMEs and operational leaders to translate complex processes into clear, accurate, and practical learner-friendly content.
  • Ensures training materials align with organizational standards, operational requirements, and company values.
  • Supports curriculum mapping and the development of program structures and learning pathways for leadership, operations, and onboarding.
  • Assists the Senior Instructional Designer in developing enterprise learning initiatives and signature programs.
  • Develops role-specific training content, onboarding materials, and OJT guides that strengthen new hire readiness and operational capability.
  • Collects and analyzes learner feedback and training data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implements content updates as needed.
  • Develops and manages digital learning content within the LMS including course setup, learning paths, and reporting.
  • Manages all requests, progress, and stakeholder/SME communications using HubSpot.
  • Creates modern, visually engaging content using digital design tools such as Articulate 360, Canva, and PowerPoint.
  • Partners with the Senior Instructional Designer to evaluate, curate, and integrate external learning content into enterprise learning strategies and development programs.
  • Maintains L&D templates, content standards, and version control to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Partners with Operations, HR, Safety, and other departments to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment across all learning content.
  • Supports communication, coordination, and stakeholder alignment throughout the design and development process.
  • Stays current with industry trends and best practices in learning and development, applying insights to continuously elevate training programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in instructional design, e-learning development, or curriculum design.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Proficiency in e-learning development software (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Vyond, Camtasia) and Learning Management Systems (LMS – Cornerstone OnDemand preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of instructional design methodologies, adult learning theory, and learning experience design (LXD).
  • Excellent writing, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience with multimedia development tools (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, video editing software) is a plus.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.


Physical Demands:

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and use standard office equipment such as computers and phones.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move items up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person and in digital formats.


Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed in an office setting or remotely.
  • May occasionally involve work in a classroom or training environment.
  • Minimal exposure to adverse environmental conditions.


Travel Requirements:

  • Travel up to 10% to support needs assessments, support training sessions, or other Talent Development initiatives.

  • Video/audio editing software and design tools (e.g., Camtasia, Vyond, Canva).

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities, but project leadership and oversight may be required.
