Job description

About the Role

IAA is seeking a Staff Engineer to provide technical leadership for our mobile app - the primary mobile touchpoint for buyers participating in vehicle auctions across North America. Our platform processes high volumes of live and timed auction transactions, and the mobile experience is central to how buyers search, bid, pay, and arrange delivery.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will guide architectural decisions, establish iOS engineering standards, and mentor a distributed team of iOS engineers across onshore, nearshore, and offshore locations. You will work closely with our Principal Engineer, product managers, and backend .NET teams to ship features that directly impact revenue and buyer experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the iOS architectural roadmap, setting the standard for what well-scoped, production-ready iOS changes look like
  • Define and enforce iOS engineering standards across the team: code structure, MVVM/Clean Architecture patterns, feature flag strategy, PR size and quality expectations, and release processes
  • Own the CI/CD pipeline for iOS: build reliability, test coverage strategy, code signing, and App Store Connect release management
  • Establish and improve observability practices using crash analytics and performance monitoring; drive data-informed decision-making on stability and user experience
  • Lead security hardening: secure credential storage, secrets management, dependency audits, and secure coding standards across the iOS codebase
  • Design and implement integrations with push notification infrastructure, deep links and universal links, identity verification SDKs, and third-party platforms
  • Help improve software process in a way that focuses on reliability, and quality.
  • Collaborate with backend and BFF teams to represent mobile needs early in API and service design
  • Partner with product and design on building out a mobile focused feature backlog.
  • Support production incident response for iOS issues and coordinate hotfix releases when needed

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional iOS engineering experience, with at least 2 years operating at a Staff or equivalent technical leadership level
  • Deep expertise in Swift and UIKit; proven experience leading or substantially contributing to a UIKit-to-SwiftUI migration at scale in a production app
  • Strong grasp of iOS architectural patterns (MVVM, Router/Coordinator, Async/Await) and experience establishing them across a team rather than just applying them personally
  • Experience owning CI/CD pipelines for iOS (GitHub Actions, Xcode Cloud, or similar), App Store Connect, TestFlight, and the full release lifecycle
  • Hands-on experience with feature flag systems and staged rollout strategies for mobile
  • Solid understanding of iOS security: Keychain, certificate pinning, secrets management, App Transport Security, and App Store compliance requirements
  • Experience integrating and maintaining push notification platforms (APNs, Firebase Cloud Messaging, or marketing platforms such as SFMC or Braze)
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers across experience levels and time zones, raising code quality through standards and review culture rather than by being the sole reviewer
  • Strong communication skills; able to clearly articulate technical tradeoffs to both engineering and business stakeholders

Bonus Experience

  • Experience with universal links, deep linking, and App Clips
  • Familiarity with iOS accessibility APIs and WCAG compliance in native apps
  • Experience with Objective-C codebases or mixed Swift/ObjC bridging
  • Background in marketplace, auction, or high-frequency transactional mobile applications
  • Familiarity with Android development - useful for cross-platform consistency and shared-standards discussions
  • Experience with App Store Optimization (ASO) and App Store content strategy
