Job Duties Include

  • Review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and customer requirements to develop CAM programs for CNC mills (3-, 4-, and 5-axis) and CNC lathes based on individual proficiency and production needs.

  • Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam to manufacture precision components efficiently and accurately.

  • Determine appropriate machining strategies, sequences of operations, tooling, speeds, feeds, workholding, and setup requirements.

  • Create and maintain setup sheets, tooling information, work instructions, and other documentation necessary for CNC Operators and Machinists.

  • Provide technical guidance and machining support to CNC Operators and other Machine Shop personnel.

  • Assist with machine setups, first-piece production, and prove-out of new or revised CNC programs.

  • Troubleshoot CNC programs, tooling, setups, and machining processes to resolve production or quality issues.

  • Optimize existing programs and machining processes to improve cycle times, tool life, part quality, and overall manufacturing efficiency.

  • Produce and support the production of precision-machined components that conform to customer drawings, specifications, and tolerancing requirements.

  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles when developing machining processes and evaluating part requirements.

  • Use SolidWorks, 3D CAD models, and engineering data to develop and verify machining processes.

  • Verify completed components using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring equipment.

  • Work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, and Machine Shop personnel to resolve manufacturability and production concerns.

  • Identify opportunities to improve machining methods, tooling, fixtures, setup time, and production efficiency.

  • Maintain accurate CNC programs, revisions, setup documentation, and other required manufacturing records.

  • Ensure CNC programs and associated documentation are properly controlled and reflect current engineering requirements.

  • Manage assigned programming and production priorities to remain aligned with the Machine Shop production schedule.

  • Follow applicable AS9100 quality procedures, customer requirements, and internal work instructions.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

  • Support Machine Shop and other Pro-Type activities as requested.

  • Perform other duties in support of Pro-Type Industries as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in machining, CNC programming, manufacturing technology, or a related field preferred.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Previous experience programming CNC equipment in a precision metal manufacturing environment.

  • Strong proficiency with Mastercam or comparable CAM programming software.

  • Experience programming 3-, 4-, and/or 5-axis CNC mills.

  • Experience programming CNC lathes/turning centers preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of CNC mill and lathe setup and operation.

  • Hands-on machining experience with the ability to understand how programming decisions affect actual machine operation.

  • Knowledge of cutting tools, tool selection, speeds and feeds, workholding, fixtures, machining sequences, and manufacturing processes.

  • Experience with manual machining equipment is preferred.

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and 3D models.

  • Strong working knowledge and practical application of GD&T.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or other 3D CAD software.

  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, gauges, indicators, and other inspection tools.

  • Ability to troubleshoot machining problems involving programs, tooling, workholding, dimensions, surface finish, and machine performance.

  • Ability to develop clear setup instructions and effectively communicate technical information to CNC Operators and other production personnel.

  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.

  • Ability to manage multiple programming and production priorities in a deadline-driven manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with Machine Shop, Engineering, Quality, and Production personnel.

  • Experience in an aerospace, defense, or AS9100-certified manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Dependable attendance and ability to work assigned schedules and overtime when required.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods, including a full production shift, as required.

  • Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
