Position Title Security Officer Announcement Summary
Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking qualified applicants for several full-time Security Officer positions. Qualified candidates will possess excellent communication skills, Customer Service, demonstrate evidence of a career that includes flexibility and willingness to change; open-mindedness, fairness and the ability to see multiple perspectives; a willingness to take risks, and willingness to accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.

Duties
Essential Duties-Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Maintains a professional and positive relationship with students, faculty, staff, and community personnel in the performance of their duties.
  • Patrol assigned College campus and/or assigned campus areas on foot, bicycle, motorized cart, and/or automobile.
  • Report to work at any assigned duty station during any assigned shift. Both assigned duty station and assigned shift may rotate depending on the needs of the College.
  • Conduct physical checks of buildings.
  • Unlock/lock building doors and gates.
  • Conduct inquiries of incidents and accidents to include writing reports.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide assistance to responding medical personnel.
  • Maintain accurate incident logs and incident reports. Write parking citations.
  • Enforce campus rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Provide traffic control.
  • Issue parking decals and student identification cards.
  • Assist motorists who require assistance, i.e., flat tire, out of gas, dead battery, etc.
  • Report safety and security hazards to Public Safety and Security Supervisors.
  • Have a working knowledge of the College Emergency Notification System.
  • Monitor Emergency Call boxes and respond to Emergency Notifications.
  • Maintain Public Safety and Security vehicles for cleanliness and safe condition.
  • Provide crowd control at special events.
  • Provide escort services for personnel and funds.
  • Provide direction and assistance to students, staff, faculty, and visitors.
  • Maintain various types of logs.
  • Support various crime prevention programs.
  • Perform other duties as required by Public Safety and Security Supervisors.
  • Following the direction of Public Safety and Security Supervisors and exercising independent judgment, assist with crisis management during emergency situations.
  • Must be available to work any shift.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of increasingly responsible law enforcement, loss prevention, and/or customer service experience.
  • In lieu of experience an Associate's degree or higher in a related field (Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology or Emergency Management) may be used as substitute.
  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license. Must possess a valid North Carolina driver's license which requires two (2) years of driving experience with no more than one (1) minor accident or violation in the past two (2) years.
Preferred Requirements
A graduate of the Basic Security Officers Training class or Basic Law Enforcement Training is preferred.
