Position Summary:

The primary job duties this position is responsible for achieving are listed in order of importance.

  • Assures validity of test results.
  • Applies criteria for specimen rejection.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Quality Control, calibration and standardization of instruments.
  • Exercises good judgment and proper interpretation of Quality Control data and assumes responsibility for decisions.
  • Trouble-shoots instruments and performs routine preventive maintenance.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of laboratory computer system regarding ordering, reports and verifies results and downtime computer procedures.
  • Is familiar with laws and regulations that apply to the laboratory.
  • Participates in training of new employees.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skills and/or activities that place patients at risk as well as communicates effectively in a clear, concise, understandable manner.
  • Applicable for the populations Infant, Pediatric, Adult and Geriatrics.
  • Incorporates HPMC mission of “quality care with compassion and respect” into daily performance of job functions.
  • Communicates problems/concerns to Supervisor.
  • Responds acceptably to priority specifications for tests.
  • Understands and can verbalize VBP goals/targets. Consistently participates in the unit and hospital specific action plans to improve HCAHPS scores.
  • Is able to use AIDET in all settings.
  • Understands is individually accountable for achieving core measures, HCAHPS and other VBP goals.
  • Consistently supports compliance and the Code of Conduct (Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center's code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and license requirements (if applicable), and Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center's policies and procedures.

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in laboratory technology or related field.


Minimum Work Experience and Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • One year experience in a hospital laboratory.

Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Extensive experience working with physicians and other clinicians; must have examples of successful collaborative efforts.
  • Must be able to work in a union environment.


Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation:

  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
  • Fire Card
  • Assault Response Competency (ARC) (within 30 days of employment).
