Science Teacher Middle School | 2026-27 School Year

Madison Country Day School, a PreK-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, seeks a creative and passionate educator for the 2026–27 school year to serve as a full-time Middle School MYP Science teacher (MYP).

The successful applicant will feel comfortable teaching middle school students and facilitating creative opportunities for them to flourish as developing scientists. In addition, the successful applicant will inspire students to investigate real-world applications of science through research, observation, and experimentation, and guide them in discovering the tensions and dependencies between science and morality, ethics, culture, economics, politics, and the environment.

Applicants should possess not just a love of teaching and middle school science, but also experience with and passion for working with adolescents. Applicants should also be driven to advance an evolving school and professional expertise. The ideal candidate is an inquisitive and creative educator who inspires others through optimism, flexibility, and teamwork.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be familiar with or willing to learn the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, particularly the framework for Science
  • Be familiar with or willing to learn how to work with Next Generation Science Standards
  • Enjoy working within a vibrant and collaborative school with students, colleagues, the administrative team, parents, and the broader school community.
  • Connect and feel at ease with middle school students.
  • Be comfortable working with students to develop skills like critical problem-solving, questioning, and researching.
  • Design and facilitate imaginative, rigorous, and empowering lesson plans that are culturally competent, student-centered, and thought-provoking.
  • Have intellectual curiosity and a desire to spark a love of learning in students.
  • Have successful experience in working with culturally diverse students, teachers, families, and communities.
  • Have a genuine appreciation of adolescents, a sense of humor, and the ability to work well within a collaborative environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach MYP Science courses
  • Offer an elective
  • Serve as a Science Olympiad coach
  • Serve as a middle school advisor
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field;
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience;
  • Excellent oral, organizational, and written communication skills;
  • Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) MYP is welcome, but not required.
