Job Responsibilities
Serves as Assistant District Construction Engineer in the administration and oversight of highway construction contracts, including construction layout, material sampling and testing, record maintenance, and preparation of final construction documentation. Prepares and reviews correspondence, reports, records, and other project documentation, conducts periodic reviews of construction activities, and provides requested information to ensure compliance with SCDOT plans, specifications, policies, and procedures. Works closely with SCOOT Pre-construction in project development and coordinates construction activities with Resident Construction Engineers, consultants, contractors, Headquarters, and District personnel. Supervises staff by preparing performance planning and evaluation documents and related personnel paperwork; coaches, counsels, and trains employees; establishes and monitors work processes; selects and hires personnel; and implements management initiatives that promote teamwork. Assists in the development of scopes of work for consultant CE&I contracts, serves as the district representative on selection committees, and assists in the development of work orders for CE&I contracts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and six (6) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.
Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise. May require overnight travel. May require extended work hours.
A motor vehicle operator's license is required.
