Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with provider line; prepare examining room and equipment.
  2. Properly document nursing care.
  3. Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules.
  4. Under the direction of a provider, examine and assess clients with illnesses or injuries or clients who become ill or injured; confer with physician to refer clients to the emergency room as required by their condition and document in medical record or other forms as appropriate.
  5. Observe and record client behavior, assess and triage with appropriate documentation.
  6. Under direction of the RN and in accordance with approved standing orders, assess condition of and make recommendations for treatment of clients reporting to sick call to RN or advanced practice provider on duty.
  7. Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies and disasters to include administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people away from dangerous situations, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
  8. Operate pill call, dispense medication and document as required by applicable policies and procedures. To include push and or wheel pill cart on facility campus.
  9. Control medication, syringes and other medical supplies or equipment as required.
  10. Comply with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those covering controlled substances.
  11. Provide health counseling and health education on an individual or group basis, as required.
  12. Review and process all reports and documents in a timely manner.
  13. Attend scheduled staff meetings; promote communications and proper flow of relevant information in the medical unit.
  14. Requires long periods of standing and walking.
  15. Regular predictable attendance is required.
  16. Keep equipment and work area clean; utilize appropriate sanitation methods.
  17. Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for patient care and facility operations.
  18. Maintain accountability of clients and property; adhere to safety practices.
  19. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staff regarding social skills procedures and intervention techniques.
  20. Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses.
  21. Conduct chart review, review status of clients with serious health problems for completion of all necessary intervention and treatment.
  22. Read, analyze, comprehend and interpret medical and technical procedures, governmental regulations, legal and non-legal documents, including the processing of such documents as medical instructions, commitment orders, summons and other legal writs.
  23. Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports as required by policies and procedures; take appropriate action in cases of serious and unusual incidents and emergencies.
  24. Provide oversite and direction to LVNs, and medication technicians.

Education and experience requirements:
  • Degree in nursing, current valid nursing license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas or compact state.
  • One-year experience is preferred.
  • Must possess current CPR certification.
  • Valid driver's license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.
  • Must attain and maintain appropriate facility security clearance.

Post Hire Qualifications and Training Requirements:
Upon hire must successfully complete required pre-service and annual training requirements. Must maintain TCCO security clearance.
