  • Required:
    • Registered professional nurse with academic preparation through an accredited registered nurse program.
    • Current Texas License issued by Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
    • Current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Healthcare Providers.
  • Preferred:
    • Current Texas Department of State Health Services certification in vision, hearing, and spinal screening.
    • Current certification in Acanthosis Nigricans screening.

Function
The Itinerant Registered Nurse (RN), in the school setting implements the district's student health services program on various campus(es) under the direction of the Coordinator for Student Health Services.
The R.N. promotes the optimum health of students and the student's abilities to achieve individualized educational goats. The R.N. facilitates and monitors the student's responses to their educational, medical, and family environments and provides health education and health services when appropriate. The provision of the services by the R.N. contributes directly to the student's education and to the successful outcome of the educational process.

Director of Student Health Services
Responsibilities:
  • Serves as a team leader to assigned Licensed Vocational Nurses (L.V.N) to provide guidance and direction for implementation of the campus Student Health Services Program.
  • Conducts clinic quality assurance reviews to ensure uniform and consistent care is being provided across the district.
  • Reviews clinic processes and procedures to ensure compliance with CCISD Board Policy, Texas Education Agency, Texas Board of Nurse Examiners, and the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Assists in orienting and training new nursing staff on campus and district processes and procedures.
  • Works with campus nurse to manage and maintain adequate health rooms, and implement health services program under the general direction of the Coordinator for Student Health Services.
  • Works with campus nurse to promote optimum delivery of health care services to students through communication and appropriate community referrals.
  • Supports campus nurse to provide clinic services including emergency care, first aid for students and employees, medication administration and perform medical procedures ordered by student's physicians (catheterization, glucose testing, tube feeding and other approved procedures).
  • Works with campus nurse in managing health screenings such as, but not limited to, height/weight, vision, hearing, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans.
  • Supports campus nurse and assists with notification to parents of health screening results and interpretations of referral and provide follow-up in a timely manner.
  • Supports campus nurse and assists in gathering and maintaining immunization information on all students, and keep immunization records current as required by state immunization law.
  • Supports campus nurse in completion of records and reports as required by administrative policy, Texas Education Agency, state law, and Coordinator for Student Health Services. Includes but not limited to Medical history /emergency information, EpiPen and AED equipment, vision, hearing and spinal state reports, immunizations state report, medication administration & procedure logs, 504 or special education screening, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality, and adheres to board policy.
  • Supports campus nurse developing health care plans for students including appropriate referral, follow-up and evaluation of health care plan when applicable.
  • Assists in monitoring communicable disease control and enforcing required immunizations.
  • Accepts a flexible and varying daily schedule or assignments to support health services throughout the district.
  • Performs other job-related activities as assigned by the Coordinator for Student Health Services.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to work in multiple-task setting and to maintain emotional control under stress.
  • Cognitive ability and emotional stability to make sound judgment pertaining to the health care needs of students.
  • Ability to perform nursing procedures and first aid.
  • Ability to perform emergency procedures, such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Heimlich maneuver.
  • Ability to sit, stand and ambulate entire campus.
  • Ability to lift or carry 1-40 lbs.
  • Ability to bend, stop, and reach above shoulder level
  • Ability to climb stairs and ramps
  • Ability to travel to multiple campuses as district needs arise
  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written form in a clear, concise manner
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Preference for working with and caring for children
  • Ability to work with handicapped children
  • Proof of Hepatitis B immunization
  • Flexibility to change campus assignment as district needs arise
