Both roles require relevant certifications and work in similar environments, but the full-time position offers more stability and consistent hours.

What are Full Time RF Technicians?

Full Time RF Technicians are professionals who specialize in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of radio frequency (RF) systems and equipment. They work with devices that use RF signals, such as wireless communication systems, cellular networks, broadcasting equipment, and radar. Their role often involves troubleshooting signal issues, calibrating RF instruments, and ensuring that equipment operates within regulatory standards. Full time positions typically require a strong technical background and hands-on experience with electronics and RF technology.

What are some typical challenges a Full Time RF Technician might face on the job, and how can they be addressed?

Full Time RF Technicians often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting complex signal interference, working in diverse environments (like rooftops or remote sites), and keeping up with rapidly evolving wireless technologies. Addressing these issues requires strong analytical skills, familiarity with testing equipment, and ongoing training on new RF standards. Teamwork is also essential, as RF Technicians frequently collaborate with engineers and field crews to resolve connectivity issues and optimize system performance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Full Time RF Technician, and why are they important?

To excel as a Full Time RF Technician, you need a solid understanding of radio frequency theory, electronics, and troubleshooting, often supported by an associate degree or technical certification in electronics or telecommunications. Familiarity with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and signal generators, as well as industry certifications like ETA or FCC licenses, is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective teamwork help distinguish top performers in this role. These abilities ensure reliable installation, maintenance, and repair of RF systems critical to communications and operational efficiency.

About the Role

The Electromechanical Production Technician supports the assembly, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of satellite communications (SATCOM) systems and related defense electronics hardware. This role is responsible for building and integrating mission-critical communication equipment used in military, aerospace, and tactical network applications.

This position serves as an entry-level technical role that bridges traditional production assembly and higher-level electromechanical or RF technician responsibilities. The technician will work closely with engineering, integration, manufacturing, and test teams in a fast-paced SATCOM production environment supporting U.S. Department of Defense and aerospace customers.

The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, basic electrical and electronics knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to follow technical documentation and standardized production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and integrate SATCOM terminals, communication subsystems, antenna assemblies, RF chassis, and ruggedized electronic equipment.
  • Install and route RF cables, coaxial assemblies, wiring harnesses, connectors, and power distribution components.
  • Follow established manufacturing and quality procedures in compliance with IPC workmanship standards, ESD requirements, FOD prevention procedures, and ITAR regulations
  • Assist engineering teams with prototype builds, system modifications, and engineering changes.
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) activities and process improvements.
  • Provide manufacturing feedback to improve assembly efficiency and product reliability.
  • Participate in integration readiness reviews and production support activities.
  • Maintain clean and organized production and integration work areas.
  • Ensure all assemblies meet customer configuration and documentation requirements

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED with technical experience (Military communications or technical training may substitute for formal education)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently under challenging conditions.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Ability to use standard production and electronic assembly tools
  • Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
  • Valid driverโ€™s license
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift to 40 pounds
  • Manual dexterity for precision assembly tasks
  • Ability to work with small components and cable assemblies
  • Ability to work safely in laboratory and production environments

Preferred:

  • Experience with SATCOM terminals, Tactical communication systems, RF hardware, Antenna systems, or Ruggedized military equipment
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD workmanship requirements and Defense manufacturing environments
  • Experience supporting military, maritime, or remote industrial operations.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Opportunities for training and professional certifications.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge satellite communication technologies.
  • A collaborative environment where your expertise has a direct impact on mission success.
